07-08 TYPE-S VALVE or HEAD/ NEED HELP!!

so FUCK MY LIFE to start off, my car most likely has bent valves says my acura dealership, the car is STILL under warranty but somehow some "over-speed" check code popped up today when they did regular maintenance, and since that code popped up, warrant doesnt cover it! IM IN NEED OF 07-08 TYPE-S VALVES or a TYPE-S HEAD, this car is my daily driver, and i need to get it fixed ASAP. i dont want to pay out the ass from the dealer. If anyone can help me out please let me know...

you can try acuraoemparts.com or google acura oem parts and find some more places that sell oem parts.

What is an "over-speed" check code and why would they be able to deny your warrantee because of it?

Need opinions, dealership maybe out for my $$$

Ok so today i took my car in for regular scheduled maintenance, and when i went in i DID NOT have a check engine light lit. A couple weeks ago i had multiple misfires on multiple cylinders p0300-306 which i thought was from bad gas, went through 2 tanks of gas and and the engine light went out through the first tank. i told the people at the acura dealership what happenedand they said they would check it out, ok cool right, bout 45 min later the guy comes to me with a piece of paper showin all my check codes, it looks about right, till i see one that NEVER popped up, i think its p0215 or something. it was for"over-rev" he said i could have damaged valves... ya ive taken my car to redline, but who hasnt? my car has less than 50k miles on it, and the only abnormal thing about my car is a little sputter coming from the exhaust at idle... ive replaced the spark plugs and took some of the sputter away, BUT SINCE ON THERE PAPER IT SAID OVER REV IT VOIDS MY WARRANTY IF MY VALVES ARE DAMAGED, but my car is running PERFECT, other than the sputter at idle, barely noticeable, he said he wants me to come back in for a cylinder leakdown test and what not, dish out a shit load of money blah blah blah... so i leave the dealership and i have a check engine light come up, it wasnt there when i went in... ive had a couple knowledgable people ride in my car and listen to it and they tell me, theres nothin wrong, which i believe em, the car runs like it did when i bought it! Could there be something wrong with the computer? motor? help me out please give me your opinions and advice please....:2cents:

how can you tell your valves are bent?

weas 03-18-2010 09:17 PM

Just looked up what the overspeed code was. Apparently it occurs when you over-rev/exceed the rpm threshold.

Found this link: http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/mechanical-problems-technical-chat/60121-si-check-engine-light-code-overspeed.html

Sorry to hear about the troubles, but that seems like a BS reason to not cover this under warranty...misshifting happens. :/

rob_acuraoflynnwood 03-18-2010 09:26 PM

Shoot my service mgr nsxlife_acuroflynnwod a pm. He can check on that code for you and see what it really means. Also run the whole story by him and see what he thinks

OK this is a really, really stupid question, but I don't see anything in your post, so I'm going to ask: Do you have a 6-Speed MT or 5-speed AT?

No, not really. A mis-shift is user error. An over-rev is user error or user abuse.

No manufacturer can afford to pay for user mistakes under warranty.

Imagine the BS that they'd end up paying for. AND the dumb ass speed-racers of the world (not meaning you OP) would have no reason to stay within the design limit of the car.

they were tryin to tell me i had damaged valves, the car runs perfect, the valves arent damaged in anyway as far i can tell by driving the car

Yeah, I figured.

I was just hoping for that 1 in a hundred that you didn't realize an overspeed could only happen on the MT and you had the AT.

A compression test would a reasonable next step. You don't have to do that at Acura. Might be less $$ elsewhere.

The problem is, if you do have a bent valve(s) and it gets worse and/or breaks, you're going to be MUCH worse off than you are now.

Have you over-revved or mis-shifted?

phee 03-18-2010 11:07 PM

have you mis shifted? the sputter is caused by a bent exhaust valve. thats what your car runs funny. warranty shouldnt cover it.

if u have a mis shift then thats why u need a new head. u can run the car how it is if u believe its horse shit. but i wouldnt recommend it with the symptoms youre describing.

i dont know why people think every dealer is out to get them. seems like your dealer is being honest by starting with a leakdown

InFaMouSLink 03-19-2010 05:06 AM

Just went through all this.
Compression test it. you probably have bent valves. Mine drove fine as well but the annoying as sputter coming from the exhaust, i wanted to kill myself. My CEL would also blink everytime i stopped at a light.

i think i read ur story before, didnt warranty cover it?

djbonsu 03-19-2010 08:29 AM

sputtering exhaust = bent valves for sure....you cant tell the valves are bent just by driving it.

warranty WILL NOT cover this....might as well start looking for some new heads...they arent cheap either. i believe there is a set still for sale in the BM. g' luck
