06 TL 5AT praying for advice on trans
 

Ok, so I bought an 06 TL with 142000 on it and now has 148000. The trans is starting to slip a little and the trans fluid looks like oil. So I doubt it has ever been maintained. I'm thinking about doing a 3x3 flush and replacing switches. What are my chances this will fix it or would I be better off selling it before its worthless?

I've had Hondas which were at least temporarily cured by a 3x3 ATF change and known plenty of folks who've had cars where the 3x3 was too little too late. If it is just starting to slip, I'd do the 3x3 and pressure switches ASAP and see where that gets you.

Worst case, you'll need to replace the transmission; expensive, but, IMHO, money well spent. Think about it this way, where are you going to find a car as nice as your TL for the cost of the transmission?

Very true plus i just bought an 07 to swap parts over to mine worst comes to wrpst i can try to find a super low mile trans and take some cash out of my savings

Just curious is your 07 having trans problems?

The 07 doesnt run at all i bought it for 600 with no title for parts

You may need a little more than just the tranny, but it should work, by my assumptions! :thumbsup:

Keep in mind, the transmission from a 2007 TL will NOT bolt up to a 2006 TL.

I bought it for exterior and interior pieces not for the trans but thats good tp know thank you pretty sure the trans is fried on the 07 too

Can you describe the symptoms of slippage you're having? Is RPM increasing but the car is not accelerating or its shifting into gears with excessive delay?

I also have '06 auto with 142k miles. I've got no tranny issues but always paranoid about the inevitable fate that awaits 04-06 trans.

change the fluid and the internal trans filter (04-06 only) and it should help. If not, you can swap in an accord trans. 07-08 is different and will prob be rebuild time.

To be a tad more specific, the Accord transmission which is the consensus Go-To transmission is the 2006-2007 unit from V6 Accords; this transmission has the BAYA manufacturing code.

Best to swap it to 6MT. A number of members here have done it.

A number of members here have TRIED it; only one or two have been completely successful.

Don’t rebuild TL trans, do AV6 swap!!
 

I’ve got a 2006 TL and when my transmission gave me issues, I just did the 2006-2007 Honda Accord V6(non-hybrid) swap. I can honestly say that I am very glad I did. It shifts better now than it ever did before, and I’m not certain, but I believe the gear ratios are different, but in a good way as far as performance is concerned. Before I did the swap, the car would still gain speed above 120mph, but very slowly. Now, 130 and it’s still pulling hard enough to be very noticeable. I actually just bought another 06 with a trans going out and am going to pick-n-pull to pull a trans for it today(about $150...you just have to pull it yourself), and after I do the swap, I’ll sell it and find another one to do it again with.

I second the Accord V6 trans. My 06 just clocked over 200k on the original auto trans, and I'm trying to be proactive here by sourcing an AV6 trans to have ready when mine inevitably fails. According to other users here, the trans is identical/direct bolt on, though you need to be sure to also have the accord torque converter (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

My trans had a 3rd gear "shudder" at a certain speed when I got it @ 150k , and I immediately did the fluid/pressure switches/internal filter, and it's been perfect since then. So ultimately my advice would be to change the fluid, switches, and filter immediately, and see how long that will get you. It could be a few thousand more miles, or it could be 100k more. Who knows. But it never hurts to be prepared.

Change the fluid at least once immediately. Then go for a drive and see if there is any improvement.

You can always space out the other two changes after some driving sessions.
