'05 TL won't start--anything besides the starter?
So my beloved '05 TL wouldn't start this morning.
Don't think its the battery--headlights are bright. I tried jumping it--no change.
All dash lights are fine, and there is a click under the hood when I turn the key.
For the past 2 -3 weeks, it has occasionally not started when I first turn the key. But in every case until now, it would turn over on the second attempt. When it turns, the starter turns as fast as it ever has.
Could it be anything OTHER that the starter? Is there a starter relay switch or a solenoid that could be causing it? Any way to test?
I read in the current thread on starters that tapping on the starter will sometimes get you going--is that the same issue I now have?
Your wisdom appreciated.

Probably starter. If lights stay bright, classic sign of a starter going out, the click from under the hood and that will only last so long until it finally gives out.
You may be able to get it started by tapping the starter, but when started get it to the garage or into a spot where you can change the starter.

Probably the starter. Mine went, and I ended up replacing it myself, after I ordered it on Amazon. Try tapping the starter with a 2x4, then attempt to start your car again. If it works, then it's definitely the starter. You can also put your car in neutral and let it roll a little, and then try to start it.
