'05 TL Motor Mounts
So just got a call from the shop rebuilding my tranny and all my mounts are broken. He said two I can leave alone because they have a "safety and they won't move as much" supposedly there is some metal attached to tgem to do this. they're specifically the front n rears. Is this true?

Rear is a pain to remove, so I would get that taken care of, and if you're slightly mechanically inclined you should be able to replace the front and side yourself. The side should take about 15-20 minutes, the front may take 1-1.5 hours. Three OEM mounts will run about $300

Front and rear do most of the work, sides not so much. Front and rear are expensive. Sides are reasonable.
Since your tranny is out they may install tranny/engine mounts for free or low cost. You should take advantage of that and change them all because 10 years is a long time for engine/tranny mounts.
If you change them all your car will feel like new again. It's worth the money.

Buy them yourself and save roughly 20% each. That's like $100. Use sponsors here or part acura.
Then let the shop install.
If you dont want to spend that much then just change all except the rear mount but make sure that one is still ok by asking the mechanic.

I bought my front mount from these guys. Works fine.
They even come with a 5 year warranty!

Not to beat a dead horse, but what goes into the mounts? Is there any special engineering that would mean OEM has a technical advantage, or is it just a heavy duty rubber to absorb vibrations, etc? Thanks!!!

if all the mounts are broken, it's best to replace them all as a failed one will put more stress on the other good mounts.
The rear mount does a lot of the work dampening vibrations. The front is the 2nd most important with the 3rd just being there.
I would go with HONDA/ACURA front and rear mounts only. I've put some mounts from RockAuto on another car and the vibration was just as bad with the old mount. A new honda mount was installed a day later and the vibration was gone!
OE mounts are designed with Vacuum lines connected to the engine to help keep them in place during acceleration, etc. As well, they are made to much higher quality standards than most aftermarket parts as Honda engineers their parts to last quite a while!
While you have the trans out, get the rear main seal done and as well get new transmission mounts. Buy them from delray acura (acuraoempart.com) and type in acurazine in the comments box for 5% off further than the 25% discount they have.

Yes the line is only for auto trans. Safety? What safety? My front mount was so broken the top tab broke off and fell in.
You said $250 per mount?? lol. They are all actually different varying prices, front and rear costs the most. Side and tranny mounts are all cheaper. Is he charging you extra because of labor? Because he shouldn't. They're already in there, might as well do them with reassembly. My tranny shop didn't charge me labor and most won't. I brought him the parts and he was happy to do it because they were OEM.
I'd recommend OEM, yes they cost more but if you are smart you can save a lot by buying from different vendors on EBay and Amazon. I got them MUCH cheaper than if I walked into dealer parts. Perhaps OEM is better than aftermarket replacement, or not, I dunno. I have done nothing but OEM parts on my car except for mods. I just don't do OEM replacements. Just my own policy.
Exactly as said, the mounts are totally worth it and you will realize how bad they were before.

Did the marketing gremlin delete erg69's post about the XLR8 mounts not having a lifetime warranty?
I find it interesting that that thread is gone, yet the mount thread STILL says LIFETIME WARRANTY.
If mods can chuck someone's thread, maybe they could also update the advertisement with TRUTH?

I just replaced the front and side this weekend and I don't know that I would go with the stock mounts if given the choice. I don't know how long mine have been torn/non-functional, but the front was totally separated and providing no control and the side could easily be moved with light finger pressure once out. I ran out of time and wasn't able to do the rear . At 65K it seems premature for the factory mounts to have failed so catastrophically.
I went with the XLR8 mounts (62a) and with just the front and side there is barely any more vibration compared to stock. Just looking at them it seems they will last quite a bit longer than the factory mounts they replaced. I understand that with the rear mount most people do experience vibration with the AC on so it's something to consider.

We have seen mounts fail well under 100k, but if you are looking for new ones, don't think that you NEED aftermarket mounts. Getting new factory ones is perfectly good, if a weaker point on the car, for maintaining the quality and comfort of your Acura.
Don't forget that Heeltoe offers more mount options than all others. We've got Genuine mounts, XLR8, Innovative, FLP Bushing inserts for XLR8 mounts, and ETDs (which are going to be a great balance between sports and comfort, if you ask us).
