Hello, long time listener first time caller. Just completed water pump replacement/ Timing belt Kit. Used the Asin kit as recommended. Happy with the quality of parts and all went well.
After completion hand cranked the engine multiple times, no issues all seemed well.
Started the car idels smooth, Engine light came on, then the Triangle ! and VSA. Had the codes checked- P0389 and P0339- A & B crankshaft postion sensor intermittent. Rest the codes drove car, runs well smooth acceleration. How ever if I get on it at 5000 rpms all 3 lights come on and the engine dies. Stop turn off the car and restart engine light on not VSA or triangle!. Drives fine only occurs at 5000 RPM.
After reading many threads took it all apart (left water pump and timing belt on) and made sure it was dry. Anti freezes did get all over the crank sensor. Sprayed the sensor with brake cleaner trying to dry it out. Ordered the sensor from Advanced ($170) but someone here has a better idea.
Any advise? Anyway to test the sensor? will i need to "teach"the new sensor if so how. Have read the service manual it says need computer to teach- well shit

Advanced Auto reset the codes, P0389 came back. Disconnected the battery reset codes. All timing marks are good with covers off. I thought it might be off a little but it runs good. Got on highway, normal acceleration went right to 80 easy. Its wierd only when i stick my foot in it is when it triggers it self off.

Pretty sure if the coolant didn't fully kill the sensor, spraying brake cleaner on it finished it off.
Or maybe you'll luck out and after it dries off, you'll never see another code... I'd give it a few days and see what happens....
Edit: The above assumes that there are no timing mark issues and all connectors were re-connected. The manual calls for a CKP re-learn procedure, but I've never heard of any DIYer having issues from not doing the procedure (requires HDS)...

And I'd guess that a P0389 (intermittent interruption) is better than a P0385 (No Signal).
For a P0339 and/or a P0389, the SM says to "check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor A/B and the ECM/PCM.."
You may be OK in a few days after the connections dry out...

Ok here is the skinney, rung the wires to Crankposition sensor all had good continuity and no signs of wear. Relpaced the crank position sensor put it all together went for a drive and check engine, VSA and triangle! illuminated shortly after driving. I was pissed. Went to autozone to read the codes and there were 8 including the crank position sensor intermittent (P0389) wellshit. Erased the codes ready to go to the stealership if the check engine light came back on. Luckily it didn't. Drove 30 miles many ranges of speeds up to 90. Rapid acceleration was successful RPM's to 7500..YEA
Lesson learned- when changing the water pump cover or protect all sensor which may get wet. If I would have known I would have taken the sensor loose and put it in a zip lock taped tight. this sensor will get dreched when removing the water pump. Thanks to all that commented.
