'04 TL Tranny---2nd gear revision to the oil cooler, info plz
Wats up...
My 04 TL auto has 151,000 miles and drives and shifts fine....
I've swapped all the old Z1 fluid out and put in Redline D4,Lightweight RACING ATF, and Regular RACING ATF for a 65% racing mixture with normal viscosity, along with a new filter and new 3rd & 4th pressure switches for the tranny .
Everything is good thus far..
From this thread...https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/2004-acura-tl-transmission-failed-817163/
"Some vehicles were found to be subject to heat buildup between the countershaft and secondary shaft 2nd gears in the automatic transmission, eventually leading to gear tooth chipping or gear breakage. The problem was corrected by updating the transmission with a revision to the oil cooler return line to increase lubrication to the 2nd gear."
My question is if anyone has more information about this and how to tell if it was done to the car...i am the 2nd owner since 130,000 miles & i dont know if it was done
Everything is good for now but im all about preventive maintenance...and not worrying about problems once they happen..
Thanks mucho for the knowledge

They're talking about the oil jet kit. It's installed in the oil fill hole in place of the fill plug. Take a look where the fill plug goes and see if there's a hose going to the location. They're take the fluid from the cooler circuit for the oil jet.

An oil jet kit .....would you say that would be something that everyone should have done to insure
long transmission life along with a fluid swap and changing the 3rd & 4th pressure switches ?
No info found from searching the forum, only returned results from 99-03 TL guys talking about it.
No hoses going towards my fill plug either .
How can i go about getting this done if it is a potential detonation to the transmission ?
I did all my other preventive maintenance and would
like to avoid any other problems.
thanks alot btw

you can go to acura site and enter your vin number to see if your car is recalled for this item. http://owners.acura.com/service-maintenance/recalls

Thanks for that link....
Looked up my vin number and that oil jet recall was never performed, along
with me not seeing it on the fill hole itself.
Does it not showing up on the search mean that the transmissions in these vin number ranges were not affected... Or simply the recall was never performed and needs to be ?.....
And if it was a recall that allll 2004 TL's were affected, would that mean
I would not have to pay if i was to bring it into a dealership ?
If you know please share...if not please direct me
Thanks for your ....
much appreciation

if the search did not return the oil cooler recall item, then your car is not the bad batch. you should be ok. just change ATF per recommended intervals. my car is also 04 and having similar mileage as yours at 154k. I use honda dw-1, it runs just fine.
yes. factory recalled issues are free at any dealers. they are paid by honda corporate.
