04 TL Damaged Leather - Driver/Passanger Seats
Over the summer I left my sunroof open overnight and it decided to rain. Luckily, it was on during a weekend when I have an opportunity to sleep in....by the time I returned to my car it was 95 degrees on and the leather on the front seats was annihilated. Over the next few months tears began to appear.
I'm looking at getting the leather replaced but have hit a dead end. The dealership charges over $2000 for the two seat covers alone. What other options are there? I would like to keep the repairs under $1000, if possible.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

go to an indy upholstery shop and get better quality leather installed for less cost. the dealer is overcharging IMHO for just the two front seat covers.

Is it unrealistic to think that I will be able to get the work done for $1000 or less from an independent upholstery shop?

Yes you can. I was quoted 850 ish for new leather for the front and back seats. Ill be going microfiber instead eventually though. Shop around and try to find the best deal. Since you are in MI you should have no trouble finding an obundance of auto upholstery shops

there are a few components to the seat covers... but it looks like you can get all the parts for awfully cheap... maybe a DIY installation?
Also, if you go OEM and you have ebony interior.. i think you should upgrade to type-s seats

cheapest route to go is getting used seats on ebay from wrecked TL. They are very cheap. I have seen seats like the TL's go for 300 bucks shipped for all seats! Usually they run under 400 bucks shipped! I have even seen my accord v6 leather seats on there for 150 bucks in good cond. BTW they do come with side airbags! They don't sell seats on there with deployed side airbags that i have seen.
