some small updates finally ...updates take forever when your wife has an ear infection/gets sick and you also have a toddler running around...

i've changed my caliper colors a few times in the past, once using the G2 brush on kit (loved it) and twice spray painting. this time i decided to make my life easier and use the G2 brush on kit again. however, i got a bad batch of paint and the G2 kit turned out horrible!! i was so angry and frustrated, the paint was super runny and thin, so it got all over the place and wouldn't cover up any of the teal that was currently painted. i ended up getting my money refunded but lost an entire morning of "free time" and this meant i had to resand everything to start over.

resanded everything and decided to go with spray paint. did the rears while on the car and because i had bought a rebuilt front set, i painted those off the car. first step was a high heat primer followed by the VHT yellow high heat base coat and then finally a high heat clear layer.

however, this time as i was applying the decal the paint wasn't dry like i thought and when i re-positioned the decal it ripped off the yellow. so i had to sand the fronts AGAIN.

by this time my wife is getting upset at me with all the time i've put into something "that goes behind a tire", so this was my 3rd and final attempt. luckily it came out ok, not great, not perfect, but good enough. hopefully i never have to paint my calipers ever again (knock on wood).

right now my car looks like a clown car with teal front brakes and yellow rear...i'll be installing the front calipers later this week and do a brake fluid flush at the same time.

my lug nuts have a teal cap on them and they've slowly been fading over time (originally matched my teal calipers). since i'm moving to yellow from teal, decided to paint the caps silver to blend in more with my vmr wheels. they will probably get scratched up every time i get tires rotated, but figured it's an easy update to do

my 20 month old daughter loves to be around me when i'm outside, so she decided to help me out with drying the car

here's a picture of how well my wolfgang paint sealant followed by collinite 845 wax is holding up after a few months:

lastly, we've had some crazy sunsets in san diego so thought i would take advantage

Daughter is a cutie

Oh wow.. so the Wolfgang works well on white too huh? @rockstar143 has been preaching the Wolfgang gospel for years now but I figured it wouldn't do well on white but guess I gotta give it a shot now...

If the paint pulled off like that, you don't have good adhesion which means you probably sanded too smooth, or didn't sand enough.
Hopefully that'll be the end of your ordeal! I had it down to a science but laying the decal down properly was a one and done thing, for sure. I would
lay on my side to be able to visually make sure it looked centered.
Oh how I do NOT miss doing those!

Outcome is great, and spending time with the little one is really what it's all about...
Rock on, man.

haha just because i make you spend money on your car doesn't mean you can do the same to me!

right now i'm just trying to survive a $10k house repair bill, hopefully insurance picks up the cost. for now it's just maintenance until i can find some funds to hydropdip all my interior pieces!

yes they did, they initially only covered 2k of 10k, so i wrote a pretty damn good rebuttal letter (7 pages) and got all our costs reimbursed! stressful time around holidays, made us realize how big of an emergency fund we need (usually we invest almost all of our money but not after this)

Your TL looks awesome!!! I am somewhat local to you - Temecula.. but I was from San Diego / UCSD grad. How do you like the EDFC?

im thinking of doing Tein coils on my 2009 SH-AWD and might consider EDFC.

hey what's up! yea you're close for sure, my parents live up in menifee right now and my brother and a lot of friends went to UCSD. i loved the edfc when i had it, it seriously transforms the car and i'd recommend it in a heartbeat if you already have tein coilovers! the active kit is phenomenal, but even regular edfc is still good since you can change it whenever you want. i don't run edfc anymore because i switched to BC coilvoers

thank you! i still do, it's my daily. I've now had the car from new almost 11 years and i'll probably have the car for another 3-5 years. i only drive about 3k miles a year since i moved so close to work (about a 3 mile commute a day). if you want to see more pics check out my IG: ortizee_type.s

have a bunch of updates on my car so i'll post them here and there when i have time.

here was my install of coilover adjusters a few weeks ago on a set of BC coilovers, this allows you to adjust the dampening without removing the seats. i don't need this all the time but i like the idea that i can stiffen it up when i know i'm going to have some fun then soften it up when my family is in the car. i was always hesitant to cut into the rear deck but the ability to have dampening easily accessible was worth it. so far i love it and no one has noticed them yet!

steps:
- drill hole (i used a dremel since i did it in place)
- sand edges of hole using dremel
- place adjuster in coilover and lock with set screw using purple threadlocker
- verify adjuster turns coilover adjustment
- add foam strip around edge of new hole
- vacuum debris
- replace seats!

added carplay via 2013 nexus 7 tablet to my TL...GAME CHANGER!!

taken from this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-a...-power-982578/

i wanted to provide my update since i recently received this device in as well and have tested it a bit. OVERALL THIS THING IS AMAZING! this is seriously a game changer and took my tablet install from a 6 to a 10. thank you to OP for finding it and posting it for others to check out. i ended up buying the "box" with the mic in it since i have mic issues with my tablet and i wanted to have the most options available for using voice commands. the dongle is literally plug and play into my tablet usb hub

to make my install work (nexus 7, 2013, timur's kernel), i had to change my setting to "compatible" otherwise it would not find my phone on initial setup.

device with mic in box:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VLDRXZT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VLDRXZT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- game changer. absolutely love it
- the new iOS 13 made a huge change to the interface for carplay and it's super streamlined and user friendly
- the main screen has maps, next turn, and the song controls on the same screen...love this
- wireless!

next steps:
- figure out how to make my tablet mic work or extend the box to somewhere where it can easily hear my voice (i already know it works but it's not in an ideal location to pick up my voice right now in the center console)

seriously in love with this thing. everyone that has a tablet should do this!!

Looks good, man...
here's my thought...add a rubber grommet and trim the height of the adjuster riser so it sits flush in the grommet.
It'll look like it belongs there!

i for sure wanted to put a grommet there and reduce the height but ran out of time and didn't have the grommets in hand. time for working on the car doesn't come easy with the 2 little ones now, but old me would have def reduced and did a grommet haha

a few long overdue updates...right now i've been focusing on more maintenance items to keep this bad boy running for a long time (and also because i can't/don't want to spend more money on mods right now...house and kids come first!)
_________________________

below "content" is what i posted in j's PS pump overhaul thread (thank you again to J). i did all o-rings plus the bearing and the shaft
@truonghthe gonna laugh at me again for this repost of my big mistake..

key note! use an impact wrench to get the four pump bolts off, the 10mm hex bolt out, and the pulley nut. I had to do this rebuild twice (more on that later) and the first time took me a few hours to manually break all those items free (breaker bars, vise, etc). when i did it the second time on a different pump (more on that later), i used an impact wrench and all those bolts/nut took less than a minute total.

so here's how my 3 hour job turned into 2 weeks of my daily car sitting in my garage and i was left to bum rides like a poor high school kid:
- my ps pump has been slowly leaking for 4 years, and i ordered all the oem parts a year ago but never had time to get around to it (very minor leak and having 2 kids under 3 doesn't help).
- finally decided to go for it on a tuesday night, and took me about 2-3 hours of trying to break the bolts free with no luck. the geometry is super awkward to hold and i had no impact wrench. finally break everything free except for the 10mm bolt...last item left. so i call it a night and decide i'll use a coworkers impact wrench the next day
- get the impact wrench on wed night and try to break it free but can't get a good enough countertorque on the ps pump to let the impact wrench do its thing
- get a tip from @truonghthe (thank you for listening to all my rants and giving me good advice) to bolt the ps pump back to the engine backward for good countertorque
- get ps pump bolted in and i start playing with the impact wrench getting familiar with it. in my testing it out, i forgot to switch the switch back to counterclockwise, put my full body behind it, and boom, strip all the aluminum threads on the inside of the ps pump. pump is toast haha

i then proceed to source a ps pump for a type s (must have "RDB" not "RDA" in part number) and in my search i find out the type s pump is unique in that after 3250 rpms the flow decreases (i'm guessing a different valve or valve actuation) and the steering feel stiffens up for on center stability. pretty cool! eventually got a junk yard oem one for around 85 and finished up the job!

dumb dumb

all cleaned up and rebulit!

______________

some "older" pics but never posted...i post current stuff on IG if any of you are on there (ortizee_type.s)

a view of the VLEDs DRL lights (hate the stock yellow ones, got rid of those about 10 years ago)

interior still doesn't look too bad for 130k miles
(ignore the dirty floor, my 2nd daughter had just been born and times were rough!)

fresh after a wash, still loving how easy it is to clean after ceramic coating the car

late work night = rare night shot

still love this car after 12 years of ownership!

our mdx using our foam washer! love using this thing

and a preview for my next post!

I love your updates, dude...
I HATE how simple tasks can turn into a nightmare due to inexperience or lack of proper tool.
I actually learned something the last go around because if you pull the cover with the shaft you
BETTER make sure not to drop the vanes out because it's hard to figure out which way they go back in.

@sockr1 You need some all weather rubber floor mat fool, all of those bling items and you couldn't get a OEM rubber mat? FYI thanks to you that I now have a spare Type S PS pump lol.

@rockstar143 this guy with his white turd didn't want to help me with the KBP PS pump rebuilt. I got to the part of removing the Hex cap, Dave just shake his head constantly..... PTSD lmao... oh it doesn't help when I use the same impact gun that he borrowed.

So when you are ready to help me paint the IM? I am really digging that gray.

@truonghthe dude, my last one was painted but the 3.5 back on the car currently...I took a wire wheel brush on a drill and basically polished it and it looks great...then you can just paint the cover whatever you want.

And that is exactly why I don't do my own repairs anymore... That helpless feeling of "oh no... I broke it... Now what"?
