WDP TL-S: Painted Engine Cover

Had few hours of extra time today. So I painted my engine cover in gold. I'll have to repaint the cover after sanding off some dust particles that settled down during drying process.

Engine cover off

Prepping

Finished

i just cleaned, taped, and painted.

i think dealer scratched my engine cover while it was in service for its first oil change. that scratch shows up even after painting it. i'm going to repaint it after some sanding when i have spare time.

This is nuts. I am normally not a fan of gold, but I can stand behind this mod. Is it just the lighting or did you do-up the grill in gold chrome, too?

i really thought it was going to look bad too when he said what he was going to do, but i like how it looks.

it looks like he put his type-s badge on the front grill too. it looks like the grill is tinted gold

I'm not feeling it either, I thought it was going to be WDP. Dragonloard color matched his NBP and I think it's the nines!

Do you have anymore pics of the "Type S" on your front grille. A head on shot would be great and a distance one.

I'd WDP all the covers. I've seen it before, and it looks stellar.

Looks Good. I would've gone for something other than Gold (maybe WDP, maybe Gloss Black) but it still looks really good. Red would be nice too, but SWMBO would kill me.

Saw a post (either here or 2G) where the guy did his cover. Something like 27 coats. Sand, prime, prime, sand, color, color, sand, color, ...... sand, clear, ..... replace.

Did it body color (Royal Blue?). Looked Sick.

Some more pics as requested..

after getting heated under the engine heat, paint got much more glossier. it shines like its been coated with clearcoat.

Hopefully the 04 TL's engine cover removes similarly. I really want to try this, except I wouldn't know which color to pick .. probably red heh.

you just pulled the emblem off from the front, or did you just pull the little clips off with pliers or something? I tried pulling the emblem and I just felt if i kept pulling it would break off

Everything is Hot about your car. Except for the "TYPE-S" emblem in the front grill. It looks out of place and you don't need that to tell it a type-s TL.

i inserted flat driver underneath the acura "A" sign and pried it off. it popped right off with little force.

i really liked the look of my tsx's front euroR grille emblem. so i tried to make it look similar but it doesn't look that good as expected.

this was my tsx with euroR conversion before the tl-s

please do not take my comment about the type-s badge personally. If the "Types-s" were engrave on the middle bar of the grill, then thats is a different story.
