I dare you to change the thread title to the "TL Diet III" and tag Rex and Tim.
Dude, I would be so inclined to wire brush and POR15 all those rusty bits...
but I guess, why bother in that climate. When I brought my KBP home from Ohio, I knew
that was the last snow it would see so I did that along with swapping unsightly bolts from
my black TL.

HFT 3 ton low-pro jack for $79.99 FTW!! lol
Yeah, I'm thinking the neighbours wouldn't mind big projects like this on any type of regular basis on your driveway! lol
I got all kinds of stares and some questions when I tore down the spare A-Spec.
Allan, any plans for the internals on the 3.5?

haha....ok, in fairness I used a gift card towards it, so, it made the price a little more attractive, even with all that.

If you have any questions or need any parts let me know, I have some left over from my 05 part-out that I would let go for cheap to keep you on budget! I literally stripped it to a shell. When pulling the motor and trans, still joined, I had to remove the oil filter housing to clear the frame. Fuel lines were a bitch too!
Excited to watch this rebuild take off!

Does the J35 bolt right up to a 04-06 base model with no modifications? Certainly a new ECU and/or wiring harness is needed?
Awesome project you have going on and making very quick progress, keep it up man.
I also had never even realized the RLs were so rare and so nice when modified, scouring your build thread it's quite impressive. The headlights of the RL make it look really mean, I like it.

Neighbours are intrigued to say the least, more than a few have popped in over the last few days to see what the story is..
As for the J35, only plans are fresh gaskets, a timing belt job & a set of PCDs that never made it onto the RL. TL is getting prepped for daily/winter duty.
With gas it probably cost me $150 CDN, can't complain at all. I always ended up making more than 1 purchase so that helps also.

I managed to pop it right out, completely intact which was nice. The fuel lines were interesting, that's for sure..

As for the RL, they are most definitely rare, especially the Aspec. I really can't get enough of it & that's the main reason for this TL, so that I can devote more time to the RL..

Direct drop in. Swap over your stock harness & no need to worry about the ECU at all. I also swapped over the water passage & all the accessories.

Another successful but LONG day, motor is in though. If all goes well first start will be tomorrow..
Here's the J35 with some fresh parts..
6 speed trans w/ complete harness. Labels are a life saver..
J35 w/ clutch/flywheel installed..
Old J32... .. had to snap off the lower timing cover to get the pass mount bracket off, 1 bolt was beyond stripped..
Managed to shatter the camera on my phone so I was left with taking a shitty selfie pic.. .. But she's in

Legit 100% solo, wasn't all that bad though, just hacked away at it little by little every day. I'll admit though, everyone should pic up an impact driver if they work on their cars, cuts down on 95% of ratcheting bolts off. Game changer is an understatement.

Impressive!
Which Maximum impact do you recommend from CT?
I've been seeing them go on sale and remember seeing max torque is around 150 ft lbs, and I'm planning to buy one that will break loose the axle nut too (which is around 180 ft lb?) which is why I held off.

All depends on what you want to spend but the last one is probably the best deal. I believe it had 145 ft/lbs of torque which should be enough to get those axle nuts off with ease & comes with some impact sockets as well for $200 bucks. I used my old corded impact which has probably 150 ft/lbs MAX & I didn't have any issues with the axle nuts. Just make sure you get the 1/2" impact wrench, not 1/4" impact driver & 20v of course.
I got lucky a few weeks ago and snagged a 20v Maximum impact driver and drill for $175 on clearance, still can't believe it..
Just looked up the axle nut specs for the TL and it is 181 ft/lbs. Can't believe the RL is 254 ft/lbs.

funny that you said that but when I remove the valve cover on the RL it literally cut down half time for the whole removal and reinstall process. I was using a Dewalt 3/8 impact drive, I drove the bolts close to tight and come back and tighten by hand ratchet.

She lives... & no CEL...
First start was a success, idles good/smooth & most importantly sounds healthy & no leaks. Didn't do an initial shake down yet though, noticed a loud rattling noise coming from the timing belt area. Upon initial inspection it sounded like It was coming from the PS pump & as I was backing the car into the garage the sound disappeared, then my steering went stiff .. looks like I need a PS pump. If that's all I have to worry about, I'll be a happy man (knocks on wood) .
Anywys, after the steering let go & the car was just idling without the rattling, it just purred & idled smoothly. Sounded quite loud & I figured the PCDs would add some sound but it was quite throaty .. I glanced under the car & to my surprise there's just a straight pipe from the 3rd cat to the mufflers, no resonator . Gonna wait to pick up a PS pump before I take it out for the first time, no PS is no fun.
Here it is...
Few things I noticed:
- The J35 intake manifold doesn't have an IMRC on the top plate (sensor on the left of the manifold just hanging there).
- Also doesn't have a sensor on the back of the manifold like the J32 does. I believe it's for the engine mount control.
I was surprised that the Odyssey doesn't have the IMRC but I'm gonna swap over the stock manifold off my RL & that'll solve that problem. I'm pretty sure the RL manifold has the sensor on the rear but I'll confirm tomorrow.
Eventful week to say the least..

I think I'll add the "MAXIMUM 20V Max Li-Ion Brushless Cordless Impact Wrench" to my wish list
I also have a $50 gift card I received last christmas
Which model did you use to bust the axle nut?
Maybe I should stick to using a long breaker bar and hopefully not mess up my back or maybe I should try jumping on the bar instead of pulling up on it.

You won't be disappointed.
I used a mastercraft corded impact wrench that I got as a gift a couple years ago. Not sure the model though, took it off easily.
As for the breaker bar method, 181 ft/lbs isn't too bad but just watch the kick back if the nut doesn't budge..

I too like MasterCraft for tools. But only if they'e on sale. Only a fool would pay full price for anything MasterCraft... because that same item will be on sale in 2 weeks time anyway
but yeah... socket wrenches don't last forever, but they have a lifetime warranty and that's all that counts! I have one of their baddest impacts too... I don't remember what it is rated for, but I got the most expensive kit they had, when it was like 45% off

Damn teh CL! That's going to be a great swap on the TL! That things going to be a torque monster once you're finished with it. I just can't get over how nice your RL looks. I've come really close a couple of times on purchasing one, but I just don't know if I can do automatic again. If they offered a 6-speed on that car my CL would have been gone a long time ago. Lol Good luck on the Odyssey swap!
