Similar to this has been done. Not exactly the same, but im sure you could mod the inside to black out the sides.

Am I missing something here or do these look exactly like the 2007 base taillights; except black instead of red?
{photo of 07WDP's car from another post}
Please elaborate for us slow folk.
EDIT: that should be pretty easy to do.

What do you mean professionally coated? If you mean by smoking the taillights, it might be strange depending on how you are going to do it. I smoked my rear license trim the other day and this is what I got from doing it. If you were going to cut out the white part, it might be hard to cut it out correctly. Even if you do, you will see the edges (17mil film I believe).

For the slow folks...he's talking about '07 base taillights with the inside or outside of the clear lens smoked. The turn signal's light output would be somewhat diminished as it would be smoked over, too, but the light from the brakes would be as clear as normal. Smoking is done with tint spray.
GmoAcTL - That looks awesome...I vote for doing it.

All my freinds have their lights sprayed and they want rockblocker like i have. U still have that shinny plastic finish look.
Before i had ever seen the 07 in the street i wanted to do this but would look wack because the clear is ur brake light so it will be cherry cherry red and the rest smoked. Kinda get what im saying. it makes sense to me. lol.

ok....let me elaborate more for the "slow folks" lol. i know a spot in jersey that will smoke your lights, professionaly, meanin clear coat it and all but the price is up there. for all those who have the funds, it will be about $250 and up but the results are sick!!! im really thinkin of doin this but not sure if i should do it how i have it in the above pic. i currently have mine smoked with a film i bought off ebay but i dont like it too much. i still see red. ive seen so many cars done the way i just explained it looks sick! trust me! \
thanks for all your opinions. any questions, PM me....

I'm was pretty sure I knew what the OP was talking about from the get-go. The thing is, I don't think masking the red off with either a spray or a film will look all that good. You're going to have this lip where the black film ends and the clear lens begins. Might be kinda cheesy from up close. From afar, it'll look good, though. The best approach would be to do what this guy did, and then just black out the inside of the housing instead of the outside of the lens. It'll cost more this way, but will look way better.

Ok, guys, "professionally smoked" means tint spray, not film. Also, if he had the lights cracked (which would cost more), they could spray the inside of the clear lens, eliminating any lip (which there hardly is anyway as it's spray, not film).
Now, for this to really look good, he would need to create an all clear taillight (like in the thread brettallica linked) and then smoke the inside of the clear lens. An alternative would be to create blacked out taillights like the guy did on his AM (HERE ). Again, create all clears and smoke everything except the brake light portion (lens clear, smoke the light parts).
