After much deliberation, I decided it was time for a theme change. The teal was looking tired on the calipers up close as I'd not gone high temp on the clear when I redid the faces for the white stickers and the brake dust had gotten embedded when hot. Also needed a break from house work.

Not perfect, but after 23 hours working on it over 3 days...the result was what I hoped for. A keen eye will spot a subtle difference to tie the theme in and make it a real JDMYO car.

Cheers and Happy Holidays, everyone.
J.

Oh my gawd. The car looks sick and gorgeous pics as always.

The only thing I'm not a fan of is not leaving the projector ring a different color other than black.

Edit: Mind PMing me where you got the Brembo stickers? They're the perfect sizes.

Thanks a lot, Thanh! Please, mi casa, su casa! I agree...that's probably my favorite one!

I shall! It's a guy I got to know who I'd ordered from before...he's awesome...name is Joseph Saladino. He has some awesome OTHER stickers too!
https://www.etsy.com/shop/ImpactGrafix

I agree...I actually was the first to do a colored ring back when I first did blue...but after doing Austin's in gunmetal, I always felt like it looked too much like silver. Then, if you do a matching color, like Orange, you're stuck redoing them when you change your mind. No effing thank you!

My other fear was that the heads would look TOO OEM...so I didn't want to leave silver ring and knew the black would look sinister in addition to the corner being blacked out under the amber. I wanted to go more black under there but I already knew it affected reflectivity too much. I even got out the 12V battery charger and my bulb to test in the Living room with Betty to decide how to mod it.

Either way, I have 2 sets of headlights...these that I restored and did OPTI LENS protection on, and the set I've had on this whole time. I can switch that back when I get bored. That set is in great shape with the OEM UV coating.

I know, right? I had thought about adding the amber back for a long time...the need to repaint the calipers was the last straw in my decision...plus, this particular vht color was the OTHER color I contemplated when I did the Teal before. Had to get it out of my system.

Thanks!

Every single one of your mods is beautifully executed, and your photography skills are superb.

When I first saw your teal setup with the Advances I wished my TL was black so that I could get teal lugs/calipers just like you. Shit, I still wish it was.

The new setup likes great as well. I've honestly never seen you do a mod that I haven't liked. Okay, okay... I'll hop off your nuts now.

Good job on the amber. Just the right amount, just the right color, it looks hot! Wish Acura took clues! (albeit some of it isn't legal in certain parts of the world )

Naw, man...I don't see it that way at all. I actually and appreciate it very much that you like what I've done. Not gonna lie, I was super scared losing the teal because I did love it so much but I couldn't fathom putting that much effort into redoing the brakes and NOT changing the color or doing something different and this color orange VHT is a color I was originally gonna go with anyway. I am not disappointed at all...nothing in life is forever and although the teal worked, it got old to take pictures of and look at after 2 plus years.

Thank you, my friend...every single time I do it...I hate it and swear I'll NEVER do it again. I added 3 hours this time to heat up and scrape up all the old butyl in the channels. Amazing how even on my 5th time...I learned new things about how these go back together and the best way to ensure no water gets in. I actually sealed them back up as I do with tails...on the OUTSIDE seam and smooth out...that's the ONLY way to know for sure there is no break in the beam and water penetration is impossible.

I have to say trying to mimic your dark/amber look upfront really paid off. I love it on my car almost as much as yours.

I may take that color through out the car like you did with the orange but in a more copper/polished note. #becauseVIP obviously

Recent pictures are gorgeous man. I need to invest in a nice camera.

Thanks Jon!
I appreciate it, man...yeah, darker amber was my goal...the calipers actually are a copperish color in person. It's VHT Burnt Copper color.

I hope you have a happy New Year.

You'll have to make us a little guide on the headlights sealing/modding. Thinking of removing amber diffuser + blacking out ring (not set in stone yet) but if one thing scares me is definitely condensation in the headlights.

Condensation is almost inevitable...but limiting the amount of time it takes for acclimation is something you can help with. I came up with a method.

Water dripping inside the lens because poorly sealed is another ballgame.

I'd gladly help you with tips...

Hey I currently have 0 condensation in my headlights, while my brother with his Cobalt has all the trouble in the world. To be fair, I didn't help him and he tried to seal it 1 billion different ways but let's just say he's not the most thorough and precise kind of guy.

I truly appreciate the kind words. It's not as perfect as it comes across in pictures...but for an 11 year old daily...she shows well enough. As I always have maintained...I mod for myself, but it's always really nice to hear that other people dig it too!

BTW, new color combo looks awesome. Not to harp on an old subject but with the new combo it would look even sicker without the tints. The contrast would finish it off nicely. But i understand, i still consider going back to tints often.

Did you already say how you made the side marker amber??

I did not say!

I have a secret!

All good, man...I actually have one tint that is ripping. They're lifetime warranty but it's a tight little shop way down in Miami so I've been putting it off. I wouldn't mind no tint, per se...but like you, I guarantee you I'd doubt my decision after the fact and probably get them redone.

I noticed it immediately but hadnt said anything yet. Way obvious to me. I have always loved the amber combo on NBP which is why i never took it out of the headlights but i never considered it on the side markers. I actually always drive with my lights on so i get the amber sidemarker look that way but this is nice. Give us some details.

I also like how your factory fogs seem kind of lower light output and blend in like another side light. Mine are too bright and when they are on they can drown out the HIDs a bit. I'm sure how clean your lenses are inside and out helps keep the distinction between the HIDs and the amber fogs next to them too.

did we just become best friends?

Well, let's just say that we've owned the car long enough now to have enjoyed and moved on from different looks and fads. No amber, then amber, white bulbs, no white bulbs...

Okay, it's simple but pricey (for a fkng spray paint)

This Japanese lens paint called VANS AMBER, look it up on ebay. Now...Krylon used to make one but I could only find Yellow or old stock...no amber/orange. So I coughed up the $30 for it. And not a lot comes in it...

So, did a test on a broken sidemarker...
Best method is put on a glove and hold the marker in left hand and shake and spray in right.

Too little and it looks like your 1990 civic faded amber corners
Too much and it looks like over applied red lipstick on an ugly hooker.
The PERFECT amount for the look and for it to dry glossy...
1 coat...1 even coat that totally covers the lens and will dry glossy and look like amber plastic.

I added clear coat to my test and it looked horrible...this paint doesn't like anything on top. I tried polishing it, it hates it and rubs off. One nice even coat, once dried, looks perfect!

If you fuck up, wipe off with goof off or goo gone and clean and start over. You have at least 4 or 5 tries before you run out of paint. Hold one in your hand and spray it and kinda drape the mist over the lens until you get one even coat without making it dark...make sure you start with the end that faces the rear so it gets a little on there.

My lenses aren't that clean, btw.
Even with all my effort, the years of abuse and sanding and polishing and cracks are apparent.

IF you can find it...it's probably cheaper

PS...the idea to do the amber sidemarker came from my S2000. I loved the look, even swapped back to it after having bought the clear CR markers. Figured it was more of a JDM thing since integras and all other Japanese makes have amber front sidemarkers. I considered and am still considering putting the red back on the rear sidemarkers but I feel like it'll clash and look a little TOO colorful.

PPS...I also thought about doing aftermarket clear front sidemarkers since the amber would likely look more orange...

but I'm sure you'd be able to tell they were not OEM and kinda That was another major reason I opted for doing the black under the corners of the reflectors under the amber in the heads. Kind of a visual tie in with the smoked amber sidemarkers and you don't see the totally clear amber unless you're looking at the front of the car.

I over-think everything.

Red rear sidemarkers are not that bad...ties in well with the tail lights. Actually i think you would get more of the JDM (even Euro) look with the Amber & Red combo. Of course i may be a little biased. Give it a try and post some pics.

But you don't have amber front sidemarkers though.
