Rockstar143 is a hypocrite…KBP TL-S BS thread…

Thanks, boys...
Sooo...spent Saturday fuckin with this bitch...was going to do the brakes but I focused on a task I didn't feel like doing...the valve cover gaskets.
Then it turned into me checking the side motor mount and realizing it was left with a bolt that's too short and another that was loose. Sprayed down
anything rusty with corrosion inhibitor.
Generally speaking I don't like painting engine covers or valve covers anymore because it seems to not last...but these were so grainy feeling they looked
bad. Funny enough I thought I was painting it the same cover as the PCV IM cover...once I painted them I realized I did them in graphite like the headlight
corners. Ended up redoing the upper cover for a classy look.
Since I had the intake off anyway...I decided to refit the 3.5 and TB that belong on the car. I'm not sure if I'll keep it that way but if I do I'll post the 3.7
and TB in the BM.
Finally bought a bigger magnetic tray for bolts...perfect timing for this job
Austin must have changed the oil! Looks great! I looked back at old pics and valves look exactly the same...not bad for 193K.
I must be color blind
Another thing I checked was whether or not Justin had done the slave cylinder checkvalve delete...Andy confirmed
that he hadn't instructed him to...took mine off the car and saw that it was untouched but the c clip was corroded onto the
back. Ended up ordering a LUK one but the checkvalve is different than OEM so I'm getting another OEM one today to
modify and throw on. We're getting there!

Thanks, dude...
funny you asked me about that...
I was so happy...spent from 7am to 7pm basically tinkering...
I slap that intake and TB on after picking up a new gasket and
studs...turn car on...car is revving to 4k up and down over and over...
Turns out the 3.5 had the IAT sensor taken and moved onto the AEM...
so there was a gaping hole. Figured that out at 1am yesterday...I find that
troubleshooting is actually better at night...with a flashlight because you focus
only on one area at a time. and it's cool out...and peaceful. Who knows...

I agree with the spray painting. My valve covers didn't last all that long which is why I ended up getting everything professionally powder coated. As for the condition inside the heads, looks like the oil was past due, broken down quicker or not a higher quality oil used. I would stick to higher quality synthetic and dump it every 3800 for the time being til it cleans up a bit. BMW was telling me oil changes are due every 10k. I just laugh and say "yeah sure". I still do the oil changes at 4800. Even my wifes new vehicle showed it was serviced a less than 1,000 miles prior to buying it, I still an oil change done.

nice work man! did you have crazy leaks from the valve covers or were you just doing it preventatively? My valve covers look a little like yours which is why i'm asking, and right now i have the intake and tb off cuz i had some other manifold leaks i took care of (also painted the manifold while it was off). i was going to put it back together tonight but now i'm wondering if i should do the valve covers before i do. how long did the valve cover part of it take, did you also replace the spark plug tube seals? why did you need new studs?

LOL...we don't have a full garage, it just houses bikes and tools.
Hmmm...I was in bed by 230am...so not long...I got a few other things done while I was up.
the rest of the stuff took me most of the day but that included eating breakfast and running some errands
It's funny but @FamilyGuy did PC on something and I recall it not lasting...also I had some sandblasting particulate make a mess of my S2000 valve cover so I'm turned off to powder right now.
Thanks for the info! I guess after the sludge I saw in the Yukon I thought this looked pretty good!
Do it bro...if it's anywhere near where I live I don't mind taking a look and giving my OPINION...
Well...valve covers aren't too much longer but then are you going to want to do plugs and valve adjust?
Use silicone grease/lube for the spark tubes...to seat them in the hole I was able to just use my thumbs and no hammer...and then
to slide over the sharp edged spark tubes you kinda rotate with the lube on and it just slides on. Trick one of my tech buds told me.
The bolt gaskets were leaking for sure...and maybe the head crank cap gasket whatever that is...never did that before.
All in all it feels good to know it's sealed all up nicely now. I used Felpro last time and this time I coughed up the $75
for the OEM valve cover set including the spark tubes...good news is they usually have it in stock
I needed studs cause they were missing from the 3.5 intake...I could have used the 4 bolts like the 3.7 but I wanted it to be original.
this was in 2016...

Anything Ft Lauderdale up to Boca is probably doable given my work and if you can wait for me to be able to plan it.
Just make sure you do the homework first to know if you're serious and seller is not a shithead and carfax looks good
before I hit it.

wow...Johnny over here trying to get Flip to buy his big white car.
@Flipster23 you'd be a fool not to make a deal though, Johnny is meticulous with maintenance
and I've seen that car in person. Gorgeous.

I’ll talk with him. I mean it beats buying the car out of state. Although, I still have a soft spot for the 1.5 gen TSX. Riding the bus home today I was looking out in Florida just for the hell of it and the have quite a few for under 4K although, private janky dealerships...
