Rear Signal LEDs?

Hey guys, I'm just wondering, why are resistors needed for LED blinkers? I mean, I've read the posts where if resistors aren't used, you'll get hyperflashing, but don't the LEDS have built in resistors? By looking at the LED replacements on v-leds.com, I would assume you just need to swap the incandescents with the LEDs, and you'll be good to go. But seeing how resistors are needed, it doesn't seem like that's the case. And how would the resistors fit with the LEDs in the housing?
Sorry, I'm a pretty big noob at this, and I wasn't really good at physics, E&M and circuits were never fun for me.

the resistors your taking about are for the leds which are built in but we are talkign about the LED LOAD resistor for the car. hyperblinking occurs if not enough/too much current on the line in the car (adding leds or burnt out halogen bulb) so for you if your doing just front or just rear get 6 ohm if your doing both get 3 ohm.

is it easier to install the resistors in the front or the back? in which case ill be doing both front and back LEDS. also if i want to change it back to stock can i do so without regrets?

Yes they are a must! resistors in the leds are for the LEDS. Load resistors are for the CAR as i said earlier.
leds require less amperage than halogen bulbs thats why you need load resistors.

^^ da mad scientist has spoken ! i agree with him...
this comin up friday i will buy myself a solderin machine from radioshack, a bunch of led resistors and leds...
will b doin my door handles to see how that will turn out... need to b ready 4 the summer

as I said earlier, I like the "hyperblink" look. I would think technically due to the use they might burn out quicker but I've been running front/rear blinker led's for about a year without resistor's with no issues......
