Picked up my Type S a few weeks ago
I always wanted an 08 Type-S in a white. Finally seen one in pretty good condition and I had to get it. I'm coming from a civic so please let me know what I should know or be prepared for. I'm new to this. Thanks!
Yep, got her from a Lexus dealer. Lol
Tried to restore my headlights. Noticed it's fogging up and looks like it's oxidizing from inside.
After the first week, someone manages to scratch on the side that wasn't even facing the road. It was facing the sidewalk!

Congrats. It's a completely different car than the Civic, a completely better one, except for gas mileage...
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

As for the headlight fogging up, it's most likely one or more seals on the back not put back correctly, or missing. Or it's been opened before and sealed incorrectly(unlikely since your headlights look stock)

I got it with 120k. I only got one key with it which is Driver 2. Was wondering if it's possible to get a Driver 1 key and how much it would cost. Yeah I do think I have to check the seals or something cause the fog/haze looks gross!

welcome to the site, yes you can get driver 1 key fob at the cost around $400 at the dealer between part and cutting then programming. As for the headlight you will have to replace the whole headlight or open the headlight and clean from the inside.

Thanks for the heads up! I knew replacing the headlights was coming to me. Lol

I just got a new key for $40 including cutting the key and then $30 to program at my local Acura dealer. I would call your dealer up and check. The key blank is not that expensive.

I'm in love since the first day I got it. The TL is the first thing that pops in my head when I wake up. LOL!!!

I'm not sure if it was done. Is there any way Acura can tell me if it was done? If not, how much would Acura charge to do it?

unless carfax report indicate the work has done at the dealer or some how you get in touch with the previous owner. Typical price for the TB/WP service is around @1100-$1300

Around $1000 sounds right. I was quoted at $600 for a V6 Accord and I think the Acura engine bay is a little more restricted and covered up so increased labor would make sense.

Coming from a Civic...so what to expect:
1.) Bigger smiles everyday
2.) Much lower MPG....especially in the city
3.) Higher maintenance costs (brakes, tires, TB, etc)
4.) Higher fuel costs (Premium vs Regular)
5.) Much more comfortable ride
6.) Less overall utility (rear seats do not fold down)
If you aren't doing your own maintenance, for sure check the Honda dealers along with the Acura dealers. I got my TB service done at my local Honda dealer for nearly half of what Acura had quoted me. There are a handful of parts that are Acura specific, but many of the mechanical bits are standard Honda parts.

Did a complete leather cleaner, conditioner, and protectant two days ago. I used some Chemical Guys stuff.
I used the conditioner, protectant, and also interior detailer (none of these products leave a glossy, oily finish) but was warned that it may cause my dash to crack. I don't get it, it has UV protection and stuff. So why would it cause the dash to crack?
Buffed out the scratch that someone left a week after I got the car. Most of it was just paint transfer. There are two deep lines left that's down to the primer. Wonder how hard that would be to have a body shop blend perfect...

I wouldn't put anything other than aerospace 303 on the dash. Some cleaners and protectants tend to evaporate any moisture out of the dash which speeds up cracking.
On another note good job on the leather it looks great. I have yet to use chemical brothers on leather but I'm sure it's good (I use Lexol cleaner with either zaino or griots conditioner)

If it's the very small black lines I'm seeing in the pic, I would just go over it with touchup paint.

Nice work on the interior.

Yeah it's the two little lines. But I hate how touch up paint looks. Unless the dealer used a really ugly white-yellowish one on my side mirrors and not the official Acura one.

That "ugly white-yellowish" one is probably the OEM Acura paint. It's how WDP is when it ages. The previous owner touched up the same exact corner with OEM paint & you can still faintly see it. Maybe get in touch with some paint touch-up specialists, usually the dealer can recommend one. They usually can match it very well since they properly touch it up meaning sanding down the scratch, touching up, leveling & clear coat.

Welcome to the TL crew, you did a big jump from a Civic to a TL so you should feel proud. You just got yourself one of the best aging car designs in the world, 3G TL's will never get old, I've had my 05 TL for one year and a month now and I still stare back at it each time I park it somewhere. If I were to change mine in the future it would be for an 08 Type S, other than that I think it will be a part of my life for a very long time. Enjoy your Type S, you have a luxurious sleeper on your hands now, just wait till you start whooping V8's with that thing, even I do it and mine is a 3.2L so yeah...
