I have shaky hands so a DSLR at night with no tripod would be disastrous

The pictures look great! I like the second one the best but only 5 to choose from? Moar!

Car looks awesome. Picture quality came out pretty good.

I just hate seeing other non-photographic cars in the shots...

good steady hands, although not hard with a D300 with what im guessing has a burst rate of 6+ a second.

nice car but i would work on composition and position your perspective so you can capture lighting.

for example the last shot, you shot the dark side of the car which doesnt make sense considering its lit on one side and you shot the dark side.

just thought i'd help with some constructive criticism since it seems youre into photography...especially if you own a professional camera such as a d300 and not d3000

Yeah, the camera is going to crank up the ISO and there should be no reason you can't take pics in low lighting with that camera. Without a tripod. I agree about the unlit side of the car, as well. But I'm not trying to sound negative, you're doing the right thing by getting out there and shooting. Thats the way to learn.

This post confuses me. A DSLR is going to do better than a regular point-and-shoot.

what CLtotheTL is comparing shooting with a tripod vs with out on. It make it easier to have a tripod because you can fine tune the exposure and insure it will not be blurry with a tripod.

Usually when shooting at night the shutter speed is slower to capture more light, therefore any slight movements of the camera will cause the picture to be burry. I can't think of how many times I was shooting with low light without a tripod and the pictures didn't turn out worth a shit because I moved the camera ever so slightly.

I understand all that, but he said "DSLR at night with no tripod would be disastrous". You're saying he really meant "a camera at night with no tripod would be disastrous"? My point was that he singled out the DSLR, as if to say a DSLR without tripod at night would be worse than a P&S without tripod at night.

not to get off topic, but who uses a P&S with a tripod??

in my experience a DSLR is more susceptible to camera shake because i never use flash at night.

P&S has a tripod mount on the bottom just the same.

I wouldn't say the DSLR is more susceptible to camera shake just because you choose not to use the flash. Apples to oranges IMO.

You'd have to compare DSLR vs P&S with all other variables the same (tripod, flash, ISO, etc). Otherwise, whats the sense.

But yeah we are way off topic, nice pics, keep working on it, and keep posting them up!
