New to the TL World. Slow build

Morning shot. Nothing really changed. Waiting to buy this strut bar to install the EDFC. Didn't want to cut the factory strut bar to install it. Decided to go with a front and rear lip as well for the future plans. Still debating on the exhaust. The oval style mufflers look good on these. As well as the canister style. But getting the rear lip, the only thing that will suffice for the look are some dual tip style mufflers. Ugh...decisions decisions...

Finally picked these up. Racing Hart Evo J8s. 19x9 +26 offset. Going to have them stripped tomorrow. Don't know what color to go with on these tho. Going to put some 235/40s on them in a week or two. I have my RV6 strut bar coming in as well so I can install my EDFC controller. Trying to figure out options on fixing my front seat. I'll post pics of that later.

That color looks great man! I'm jealous you have a Type S tho. Lol. White would look good but..I've done white before. You have to have a certain...wheel design to pull white off. That's just me tho. I was thinking black chrome or gunmetal. It would look great with the silver color of the car.

Honestly silver is kinda tricky with wheels. I like black but then you don't see the details of the wheels in pics. I also like polished/chrome look with silver but not a huge fan of owning chrome. Those wheels look like a good design. I wonder how much they weigh

True to all of those. Lol. I've never been much of a fan of black wheels. I mean they look good on some cars but I've never wanted a fully black wheel. If I could, I take the wheels apart to polish the lip but they're not 2 piece. I might just paint them silver once they're stripped down.

I'm a fan of both. At one point I'm gonna have like 2 or 3 sets of wheels for this car. Lol. I want a set with a lip and then a set that's concave. Varrstoen ES1s and a set of ES2s. the ES1s in 18x10.5 and the ES2s in 18x9.5. Then I'll be happy with wheels.

Got the wheels stripped down. Now to figure out what color I'm going to paint them. If you look closely, you can see the "Racing Hart" where the lip meets the spokes. Might end up just doing them in aluminum silver and see how that looks. Don't want to powder coat them. It'll cost me $125-150/wheel which will put me at $800+ into these wheels. With that much I could have gotten some wheels I really wanted. I got these because they're a good brand, nice design, and cheap. Hahaha. We'll see what happens...
In other news, my RV6 strut bar came in today. Since I have off Sunday, might install my EDFC. If I get up early enough to avoid the heat.
#132
Ugh! Lol. Never been a fan of the rust look for me. Hahaha!
RV6 strut bar just came in yesterday. Dag that was some fast shipping! Heeltoe on point! Even came with a plate, RV6 key lanyard, and a took magnet. I'll post pics later today.
EDFC should be getting installed Sunday morning as long as everything goes well.

find somewhere that'll do them for cheaper...around here 18's would be $400 and that includes having to strip...you already did a lot of the work so I'd be shocked
if you couldn't negotiate somewhere closer to $250-300 for a simple powder. Do rootbeer colored or something crafty and nifty like that.
plus, when you resell them, you'll get the powdercoat cost back in what you can sell them for if they don't look like ass and you'll have enjoyed them looking good.

Looking at what they go for now, even used, they still sell for like $1400-1800. I MIGHT put some more into it. For the time being though, I'll give them a good coating of aluminum silver to make sure they don't rust. I hate to do it but I'll be getting some 225/40s to mount on them. I say I hate to do it because I never wanted to go below 235s on this car. Seems as though its a common thing. and plus the tires are a great deal. I might have them mounted by the end of the month. We'll see.

Yep. That's what it normally looks like. I just didn't want to go below the factory 235s. That's how I've been on the last few cars I've had. The TSX I had, I made sure what ever wheels I had, if I was going for fitment, I didn't want to go below the factory 215s. Same with the TL. Don't want to go below 235s. But I might try the 225s. I need to do a test fit on them today and see how they'll sit when I put them on.

RV6 strut brace came in Thursday. Ordered it Monday afternoon. Fast shipping from Heeltoe! Love the stuff RV6 included with it. Installed the strut brace. Waiting til tomorrow morning to install the EDFC. Gonna go home and study the install guide that was made up here by a fellow member to make sure I do it right.
Decided to paint the Racing Hart wheels aluminum for the time being. I'll look at possibly painting them another color or having them professionally done.
Going to possibly get tires for the wheels in a couple weeks. Glad I have them stripped down. Don't have to worry about masking off tires. Lol.
Next mods:
-RV6 J pipe
-Type S ASpec front lip
-Type S rear bumper
-mufflers(not sure which ones yet)
-Possibly 55w 6000K HID kit from TheRetrofitSource.com
-Fix passenger side seat
Not in that order though. Lol.

If you paint them before the mount the tires, they will get chipped up when they mount them since they won’t be powder coated.
Take it from a former auto body painter. That paint is softer than you think.
Mount the tires, masks them off and paint them aftwerwards.

I can't wait to do it man!
Any time I've painted wheels, I've never had an issue with the paint coming off during the mounting process. I do appreciate your info being an automotive painter. Being that they're stripped down to bare metal, I want to have them painted before they start to rust. I've already started to paint one as seen int he pics below...
I'm TOO concerned about if they turn out perfectly as I'll probably be keeping these for a good while. I'll be doing a good couple of coats of clear on them as well. Learned from the...well....20 times I've painted wheels to take my time. Make sure temps on the outside are right. Take my time. Multiple even coats and not 1 or 2 heavy coats. Take my time. Prep. Take my time. Prep. Lol.

Test fitted the wheels the other day before paint:
Painted them silver with some VHT Wheel Paint:
Found the center caps online. Gonna look into getting those this month. Need to get another valve stem as well. I wonder is OEM valve stems will work on this.

Well. Sold the Racing Harts. Didn't want 19s. Kind of regretted it but I don't want to put wheels on that I'm not 100% on. Still gonna go with some 18x10s. Just gotta....be patient. I did however order my Type S lip. That'll here Monday. Just gotta get it painted.
In the mean time. Got a nice camera that I'm thinking about buying. Friend let me borrow it over the weekend.

Lol.
And thanks. I'm still on the fence about what wheels to go with. I want the Varrstoen ES1s but I love the design of the ES2s too. If I had the cash, I'd buy both. But can't. Ugh....I might just put off any mods for the time being. Save up some cash and decide in a couple months.

Thanks yall. I just want to have something with a lip. Thought about trading my stocks but I'll never make that mistake again. I always want to keep a set of stocks. Shot I took the other morning.

Lol!!! Well I have found something else to throw money at. Photography. Dag this stuff is expensive. Leave it to me to find an expensive hobby. Hahaha!
I'll find some wheels in a few months. I do need to buy some new lenses for my new Canon. I plan to start making money off taking pics. Gonna need an extra camera too.
#155
Nothing new. Just wanted to post pics that I've been taking. Lol. Type S lip should be painted and installed by the end of the week. Debating if I should do the STi lip under the Type S...

Dag it's been a while since I've posted. Hahahaha! Still haven't installed my EDFC or Type S front lip. Need to get that done soon. But I did make a good trade recently....My stock 04 TL wheels for these...
Konig Illusions. 18x8 +45. Kept my 25mm spacers. Sits just how I like it. Can't wait to see it with the front lip on!
