New LED license plate lights

I had some 3w 120 lumen LED's laying around. So, I decided why not use them for my license plate lights.

Next, I'm going to get some Cree 10w 1,300 lumen LED's to use as reverse lights, and rig them to a toggle switch to flash people that ride my ass. That ought to give them a bit of a surprise considering a 9006 bulb puts out 1,400 lumen.

Looks good. Do you have a link to the 10 watt CREEs? I had 7 watt ones in my last car and bought 5 watt ones for the TL that don't even come close.

Here's a link a to the 10W Cree's:

I just noticed today when I opened my trunk that the hot glue I used to cover all the solder pads and wires is actually starting to melt when I drive for a while at night.

Looks great!

I would remove the CF license plate frame though. It clashes with the horizontal stripes in the plastic behind the plate

I was just thinking about taking off the cf frame when I installed the LED's as it's gotten pretty faded from 6 years of sunlight. Plus, it's pretty cheaply made, and is a little warped.

I wish I would have ordered more. They were only $4.60 each. I ordered them for my nephew's quad to replace the crappy headlight, but now I wish I had some more to use in my dome lights.

Dude, I know your name on Acurazine is CarbonFiber and usually, being the carbon fiber whore that I am, I would applaud your carbon fiber license plate. But I think I agree with Tyler (CLtotheTL) on this one.

The pattern does clash. Otherwise, everything looks good.

You guys are right. The more I look at the picture the more I want to take it off.

Or, I wonder how it'd look if I wrapped the area behind the plate in cf vinyl?

Thanks guys,

I used to have some dim Radioshack smd LED's in there, but at least they were the nice "cool" white. I absolutely hate "warm" light. All my CFL's are at least 5000k. To me personally it's looks better because it's literally more natural like sunlight.

Well, you guys were right. I took of the cf license plate frame, and I'll admit it definitely looks better. I to your wisdom.

Here's a pic of the plate minus the frame, you guys were definitely right. It seems to flow better. Now, I just need those 1300 lumen reverse lights.

Better, I think it still needs some kind of license plate holder.....that's just me.

An Acurazine.com plate frame would look good.

I was literally looking at the plate frame when you posted. I'm just not sure I like how there's no screw holes on the bottom, and it looks like it might cover up the Palm Beach county on my FL plate, or does it ride along the little lip the goes all the way around the plate?
