My biggest reason for doing the white part is I either wanted white with black like they are now or the colors swapped black with white. I figured with my shields painted white it would blend to much if I went black with white.

They do have a lot of white, but hopefully yhey will look better once installed on the car. Thanks for looking everyone

Hmm, not sure if I'm feeling all the white exactly either, but when its all put together and on the car I may have a different opinion. Either way great progress.

i did a white theme with my old accord 10+ years ago, liked them for a month or so and ended up with black again.....so white might not be your best bet....IMO...

looking great, props for doing something new. I got a question though, did you do anything to the TL projectors besides zkw-r lens? like bend the cutoff shield or add spacers(if so, how much and what kind)? That looks to be a lot of color in the cutoff, much more than mine with the zkw-r lens. also i assume the cutoff pic is BEFORE putting the headlight lens on? as im sure some color will diminish once the headlight cover is over it.

Nate, I'd advise on sourcing some step style shields for your TL projectors.

Make yourself some hybrid projectors i.e. shields from an early 04 TL projectors i.e. step style DOT shields

___________|''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

rather than your current ECE style (slope style DOT) shields

___________/''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

pair them with bowls from 06+ model TL projectors since they have better chrome finishing on the reflector bowls hence the light spread is more even.

You'd want to do this for a few reasons.

1) Hybrid projectors spread light way better than OEM. (not just a myth, I believe mod gearbox from HIDplanet came up with the idea back in 06-07, I could be wrong but I know he has a comparison thread with pictures showing lack of hot spots etc.

2) Your S2ks have step style shields so if you have s2ks with step and TL with slope then it would just look odd, you want both to have step style shields so that it looks more even.

3) Step style cut off is much cooler

here is my old quad set up

3G TL hybrid projectors with authentic ZKW-R lenses for main beam
AP1 S2ks as auxiliary beam

Also note, for some odd freaking reason, the way the S2ks optics are and the way the lens is, you getting a tad whiter light from the S2ks than the TLs, never made sense to me but you do, for the following pictures all four projectors have 4 brand new Phillips 85122+ bulbs.

Just the TLs

Just the S2ks

All four

I never try to bend the shield if I can help it. The pictures I posted were with lens spacing only and one bulb spacer on each TL projector. I tried to use to lens spacers on one of the projectors, but it's almost impossible to get the retainer clip back over the lens without snapping the clip.
Yes these pictures were without the headlight lens on, so some of the color will diminish as you said. The should still look pretty good though.

Yes sir, they are already on order, after matching them up outside last night, the slop just wasn't going to cut it. I talked to matt at TRS about getting some step shields already. I have the Hybrid projectors on my car already, remember I had to send them to you for alterations because I couldn't get rid of the light above the cutoff, this was a while ago though. I pm'd you last night as well, did you get that?

White shields will definitely pop on that black bezel.

All this talk 'bout modifying the OEM projectors makes me think I should dish out some money to do the same for when my headlights come in...

I just got back an email from Matt. They are currently out of TL step shields, and I dont feel like taking them out of my current set up to swap them over to my new headlights.

I did find out something real nice for us retrofitters though. According to TRS facebook page, they now offer spacers already cut to size for the TL zkw-r lenses, now I don't have to make mine out of cereal boxes anymore lol.

I just ordered mine today, they're $1 for a pair. I bought two pairs and on pair for my s2k projectors. I also bought and extra retainer clip cause I broke one. They sell those for $15/piece.

I'm not sure of the exact circumference, but I'm sure they took the measrements front the lens holder and had them custom made. Just tell Matt you want spacers for the TL porjectors and he'll have them ready for you.

I believe he got spacers custom made for each of the projectors he carries on hand.

Sorry I meant thickness.
I was thinking of waiting.. but since they're cheap I might just get a whole bunch of different sizes.

Wish I could show you the final. I'm not even close to being done. School has taken over my life at the moment. Slowly trimming down the s2k projectors right now. I went and picked up taps yesterday to drill a new mounting hole for the projectors.

Looking good nate! First time on the forum in a few months and stumbled across your thread had to take a look. Its funny I had those exact same red and white demon eye pictures saved from Hidplanet when I was working on my quad setup.

Now as a home owner my projects involve tiling floors and literally as I speak building a headboard. Actually more fun than it sounds but I am definitely anxious to pick up some of my car projects again! This is why I avoid the forum too many projects get added to my list!

Anyways good luck with the project!

Headlights

Awesome! cant wait to see the finish!

After having this set up for a few months, I decided I wanted to go with an OEM projectors so I will have the abilities to use OEM bulbs and I've also always wanted S2K projectors. For the H1's, I have to use aftermarket H1 bulbs for these to work and are hard to color match to OEM bulbs.

After talking to JnC to see if these projectors would even fit I decided to give them a go. These projectors are going to have to be cut to the bar minimum to even be feasible.

Here's a list of what's going to happen with this build.
  • S2K ap1 projectors with OEM e30 clear lenses (possible custom shields)
  • OEM TL projectors with ZKW-r clear lenses (I'm not sure yet if I'm staying with the Slope shield or going with the step shield yet)
  • 2 pairs of Osram 66240 CBI's
  • Morimoto 3five ballasts
  • White shield painting
  • WDP and NBP housing painting
  • Type S clear diffusers
This project is going to be very slow moving because I work full time and also a full time college student, but I will have this done in time for late spring early summer.

Moving on to the pictures:

some of you have seen the idea I found from HIDplanet for the shield painting.

These were made from a coke can with the aluminum painted red along with the projectors shield painted red. As stated above, I will be going with the white to match the car.

I will update this thread as often as possible with my progress over the months. I should be taking the headlights apart tonight and to finalize my ideas of painting the housing and get them sent to the body shop for accurate color matching. Stay tuned! updates will be coming soon. Thanks for looking everyone.

It still baffles me how you can add a spacer to the ZKW-R lenses. I didn't use any spacers and it was a battle getting the retainer ring to snap back into place. Just seemed like the ZKW-R lens was thicker than the stock lens. I actually cracked one of the retainers because it was such a tight fit and I was pressing on it so hard.

btw, those beam pattern shots are amazing, Nate!

Yeah, I had tons of trouble with my clear lens swap. Spacers did nothing and my right side is horrible. I also broke a retainer clip. I've done about 3 retros and have never been able to get a cutoff like the ones in this thread. So jealous! I can't wait to see the headlights on the car. Keep the pics flowing.

I was able to take the retainer clip off and on fairly easy with the zkw-r lenses. 1 spacer wasn't bad getting them back on, but 2 spacers was nearly impossible, I ended up breaking a retainer clip (first time ever breaking one and I've done atleast 5 clear lens swaps) luckily I had an extra one laying around. I ordered another backup from TRS just in case though.

Sorry for the lack of progress pics guys, I should be doing some more work on them tomorrow night after my Anatomy exam.

Nate, have you looked into getting yourself some CDM headlights for the quad retro?

I suggest that as in CDM headlights you can aim/adjust the low beam projector independent of the fog light. Not only that but you can also adjust the vertical and horizontal aim of the low beam. The fog light reflector is separate and you can adjust height of the beam, again completely independent of the low beam.

Check the following thread.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=710375&page=1

retrofitting both projectors on one bracket and making sure aim is perfect will be a bit tricky, if you can use the CDM headlights at least you can adjust the aim after the project is complete.

Here is the vertical adjustment screw for the fog light reflector.

Vertical (right one) and horizontal adjustment (left) screws for the low beam.
