My poor baby did battle with a trailer hitch... and lost... (PICS)
Looked down for a split second while coming to a stoplight and hit a stopped Saab SUV at a stoplight RIGHT OUTSIDE my apartment building. Speed was about 10 mph and no one was hurt. (No airbags deployed).
It had just finished raining so the streets were particularly slick. To make matters worse, I've been meaning to change my tires for the past 2K miles. I remember having enough time to think "wow I'm actually going to hit this guy?" before I hit him.
Oh yeah and of course he had a trailer hitch mounted on his rear bumper, too. Fortunately the trailer ball was not on, but the hitch alone was enough to do plenty of damage.
......... I figured you guys could help me in my coping process by sharing in this pain with me. My poor baby! I had been planning on adding some A-spec rims but that's going to have to wait a while now.

Bumper removed... radiator had to be replaced as well...
Listed individual prices for replaced parts:
Total cost for labor and paint? ................ $3,596.54
Moral of the story? If you're gonna hit something, try to avoid hitting your headlights... Oh and make sure not to delay in replacing those tires the minute you think they might need to be changed...
I still believe if I had new tires on, I would not have hit the guy.

Nope, not much at all. His trailer hitch stiff-armed my car before she could do any more damage.
Thanks for the support, guys. Heh heh...

I'm paying a $1,000 deductible and the folks at GEICO are going to pay the rest. The thing I regret is not getting car rental coverage. It's not really that much and it would have saved me a little bundle. You do get a discount with GEICO, though, so I can't complain too much. I'm putting around in a Kia Rio (oh, the PAIN) for about $22 a day.

Hmm! Thought it sounded steep. But should I bother looking into this? I mean there's no way of getting out of my deductible and this garage is sponsored by GEICO... so I'm guessing their prices are pretty concrete?

gotcha.
I know that must hurt like hell going from the TL to that Kia.
When will it be ready?

Yeah driving the Kia is painful... but it's cheap, only temporary, and I see it as my penance for driving recklessly.
I'm told it should be ready around May 2nd or 3rd. Sounds about right.....
Thanks again to everyone... hopefully none of you have to go through this, but if you did, you'd find the support from everyone here actually helps!

Good luck, just beware body shops rarely deliver on time. If you have the attitude that it will be done when its done it will save your sanity.
I was stopped for a school bus and I was rear ended. The State Farm Premier shop did a good job but my car rental ran out just as the twice delayed car was delivered.

Hey man thanks... yeah I did present the guy at the shop with a few things I wanted done (like Rockblocker tints on tails/sides... I heard it's a hairy DIY)... he just gave me a blank look. Guess I won't be modding there...
... As for cleared headlights, I've never been a fan... for Anthracite, at least. Makes the car look too plain. Looks nice on WDP, maybe NBP, IMHO.
