MattB07TL Progress Thread

Hey everyone, Thought I would start a progress thread of my own. Before I bought the TL I had an 04 STI which was very short lived due to an car accident

Someone cut off on a rainy night on the freeway hit the median and that was the end result

Insurance company totaled it due to a bent frame. So the next car I decided on was a Tl,Always have loved em. Got a 07 CBP base with 60K, Wanted a Type-s but they where a little out of my price range at the time. Here is the first day I got her home

Only mods done was 15% tint all the way around. I've owned it for about 6 months now. First mod on the list was swapping out all the bulbs with LED's.

Started off with the map/dome lights.Link to the bulbs I bought
http://www.ebay.com/itm/220647272588...84.m1423.l2649

I bought 5.. 2 in the front 2 in the back and one for the trunk

Front

Rear

Trunk

Ghetto trunk Install? Yes,but I don't care because no one sees it.

For the doors and reverse lights I went with a 42 LED bulbs

http://www.ebay.com/itm/130524494537...84.m1439.l2649

.License plate bulbs I used 5 SMD LED bulbs

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LED-WHITE-2X...item2315fe50d2

Next on the list was going to an LED DRL. This is the kit I bought
http://store.ijdmtoy.com/9005-LED-Da...d_sku45_r3.htm

I think they look a lot cleaner then the stock halogen DRL's.

Next mod I did was swapped out the Halogen fogs with a 3K hid kit,Which after a couple of burned up fuses realized I needed a relay harness

Next mod was the DC Sports CAI,Which I installed without taking off the front bumper which was kind of a pain in the ass. Down the road when I had to take off the front bumper to do the HL mods I realized just how easy it is to get it off,Pretty much a 5 min job.

The one problem I ran into with the CAI was the filter pushing into the HID fog bulb.Yet to figure out what I'm going to do about it,The HID bulbs stick out quiet a bit farther then the stock halogen bulbs.

Next thing on the list was wheels and tires, After a little research I decided on the 18 RonJon Legends in Liquid Graphite,Thought that color would go well with the CBP paint. As far as tiresgo I went with the Hankook Ventus V12's

Next big mod I attempted was the headlights which is one I shouldn't have, Because I screwed them up pretty bad and they looked like shit.
Mods:

clear diffusers
http://www.uniquestyleracing.com/20actlclhedi.html

LED angle eye halos
http://www.uniquestyleracing.com/20actlremouh.html

I didn't seal them properly and they would start to fog up just from washing the car, I knew that wasn't going to work especially living in Oregon where it rains 90% of the time here. I ended up contacting Jnc the headlight guy on here to see if he would be willing to fix my abortion of a headlight project and he did, I have to say he does damn good work. Wish I would of just sent it to him in the first place. Decided on some more mods after I sent them in including zkwr lens swap,Carbon fiber inlays, blacked out the housing and Phillips 85122+ bulb upgrade. If you are debating the Phillips bulb upgrade and zkwr lens swap I would highly suggest you do it because it makes a night and day difference.

Here is what they looked like after Jnc was done with them.

Installed.

Next mod was LED switchbacks,LED rear signals and flasher relay mod.

For the switchbacks I went with a 60 LED bulb
http://www.ebay.com/itm/330583175374...84.m1423.l2649

Rear signals I used a 102 led bulb
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140580025704...84.m1423.l2649

And then the flasher relay mod I used 1 .12OHM 1 Watt resistor

Here is a short video I made to demonstrate no hyper flashing and how bright they are.

If you want the Type-S Rear A-Spec Lip all you have to do is just buy the type-s a-spec lip and put it over your base rear bumper.

You will have to dremel and do some slight cutting to accomodate for the 8inch wide exhaust gaps on the Type-s compared to the 6.5inch gap the base models have.

there's no need to purchase a Type-S bumper for $500 and than buying a $200 type-s a-spec to put it over it. You can just modify your current base rear bumper to fit the type-s a-spec over it.

save yourself half a grand put it towards something else

I think he was referring to the trunk lid lip spoiler. Op, car looks good.

Looks great! Can you take a shot of your headlights at night? I've been debating on the lens/bulb upgrade myself. Are they noticeably brighter or obviously brighter than what ya had....meaning do you have to look twice to see the difference or is it obvious the first glance.

I will try to get a night shot for ya and post it up. But yes its a huge huge upgrade. Almost like comparing halogen to HID's.Talk to JnC https://acurazine.com/forums/members/jnc-26894/ he can get you a deal on the bulbs.I would highly suggest the upgrade you wont be disappointed.

Ordered some yellow overlays from BlueBat for my fogs.I've never really been fan of overlays but I wanted a more intense yellow and the 3k bulb just wasn't doing it for me. Was surprisingly very satisfied with the outcome. Here's a couple pics. Also Just got my OEM window visors and base aspec front lip in the mail. Going to try and get those on soon when I find a little time and its not pouring down rain.

Nice! Love the fogs.

I have the same look on my car. I put 6000k HIDs in my fogs, and then put the Yellow overlay on the fog housings. My tint was cheap ebay stuff and it wasnt precut so it took like 45 minutes to install with no bubbles and what not. It looks the same greenish yellow.

I really like it but I may take the vinyl off and go for all white when I go bored.

Oh and JnC did my headlights as well. He does awesome work!

Good progress!

Got my new camera in the mail about a week ago, Have been trying to figure out how to use it, Will probably take a little while before I'm taking good looking pics especially since coming from a point and shoot but her she is

Finally got around to putting on the base aspec lip Also put on some oem window visors, Roof spoiler bought thru oem bmw shop from ebay and a chrome license plate frame from the dealer.

^There's the new lip

Also took another pic of the halos with the led drl's on,Little cleaner pic with the better camera

How has the overlays been working out for you? Are they still as bright and as yellow as day one of buying them?
