Well J, I guess this is for you.....
The resonator you suggested did the trick! I had it put on today and it was just what the Dr ordered. The tone to the exhaust was still very nice, maybe a tiny bit less audible volume, but still sounds awesome!
Now for anyone wondering what I am talking, about here is what I did to cure the little rasp issue and drone I was getting in 5th gear (AT)
My Old Setup:
RV6 V3 J-pipe, mid muffler delete, dynomax resonator part # 24215.
It had some rasp as well as some drone in 5th gear (AT) around 45-50 mph. The only way I can describe the sound is if you were to put a MT car in 5th gear doing 40mph. It was like a drone/bogging type sound with this resonator.
My New Setup:
RV6 V3 J-pipe, mid muffler delete, dynomax resonator part # 24235
Still has a nice tone to the exhaust, but the drone is gone in 5th gear as well as the rasp under normal and hard acceleration.
Here is a pic of all 3 resonators together: stock and the 2 dynomax

Can't wait to head this. Btw, what's the difference between the two Dynomax resonators? They appear to be just about the same length in that pic.

The resonator all the way at the bottom is the one I had cut off. It still has the piece of exhaust pipe welded to it giving it that same length appearance as the others. Since the 24215 resonator is a lot smaller than the stock one, one end of it has to be extended a little to fill the gap the stock one leaves.
The 24215 (bottom resonator) is 4" around with an overall length of 16.5" and the resonator shell is 12" with a 2.5" inlet and outlet.
The 24235 (middle resonator) is 4" around with an overall length of 23.5" and the resonator shell is 18" with a 2 1/4 inlet and outlet.
So the 24235 has a 1/4" less inlet and outlet pipping diameter and 4" longer resonating chamber. It still gives a nice exhaust note and the extra 4" of resonating was enough to cure the minimal rasp and drone I was getting.

Dude...I'm SO Happy to know this solved your problem. Thanks for the great review and writeup and pictures.
Nicely done!
I think that people should just spring for the 23.5" Dynomax regardless of whether or not they have the jpipe in preparation for mods down the line. Nice to know a slightly longer res would have fixed it.
John, to put it simply, in the picture it's
OEM
NEW DYNOMAX
OLD DYNOMAX

Did you rotate the pic or something? It was 90* clockwise earlier, so I thought you meant (the now) top two resonators were the dynomax, so I was confused. Anyway, makes sense now. This info will definitely come in handy later.

Lol, thanks! Yeah I've had a lot of ups and downs and I haven't even had the car a year yet! But everything is all good now and in one piece and I couldn't be happier with the outcome of it all.

Thank you! Well since I got my exhaust situation all figured out, the next mod on my list is the UR Pulley that I got from XLR8
Sorry, no new exhaust clips just yet, but I am going to work on some this weekend and find a better place to open the car up and not have to slam on my brakes as soon as I drive by the camera, lol.
Yeah, I gotta get my ass up there. My September is so damn busy on the weekends with crap the wife already has palnned, so I'm really not sure if I will be able to get up there before my rims have to come off for the winter, but I'll see how it goes.

So I have been a little busy yet again. First I had the had the UR lightweight pulley installed. The weight difference between the stock pulley and UR pulley is significantly less, about 7-8lbs! The car feels much "lighter" so to speak and acceleration seems much better in the lower rpm range. The bolt to get it off was a pain in the ass as others have said with previous installs. Once you get the bolt off the install really isn't that bad.
The next mod on the list was the stock intake resonator delete. Install is very simple and straight forward and doesn't really require much mechanical knowledge. Don't really know if it provides any gains and I don't really care if it makes more noise or not, I just figured a less restrictive and more direct air flow path can't be a bad thing. Here are some pics throughout the install.
In stock form
After taking out the three bolts holding the resonator in place and then using a sawzall to cut the resonator out.
Here are the parts that are removed.
Here is the rubber coupler that you reuse and another part of the stock setup. It's a good fit, but from bouncing around I didn't want it to ever shake loose so I used JB Weld to hold these two pieces together.
The finished product.
And lastly I tried to make some more videos to help capture the sound of the exhaust better, but I still don't think they are up to par. I feel I need to find a better place to let the car get some speed up and let the camera listen to the car from a further distance before having to put the brakes on, but I'll post them anyway and try again another time.

Machine, good work on your 2 mods. I'm still contemplating the UR Pulley myself.

It is a decent mod and I feel it is worth the money. IMO, I think people go a little overboard saying the car has a "night and day" different feeling. Maybe it does, if your car was bone stock and this was your first mod, but having the RV6 V3 j-pipe on my car which actually makes a difference in performance, it's a little harder to feel that "night and day" difference some people claim to have.

I've got the J-pipe already. I'm just concerned about the UR Pulley. I've read so many threads and seen write-ups about possible problems/issues....

I read some of those threads too, and I myself was scared at first to buy one. The biggest issue I have seen was with the belt making some kind of noise after a while when the AC is turned on. The fix was to just put a new belt on and that has seemed to cure the issue. I think Sharksbreath and Rockstar have had the UR pulley installed for a little while now and have had no issues.

Yea, for every person that does have an issue, there are 5 that don't! Swoosh, Buda and I are discussing it and trying to make a decision.
I have driven Buda's TL (with the UR Pulley on it) and it's amazing. He does have a base TL, as mine is a Type S.
With the UR Pulley, Throttle Body Spacer, short ram and the J-pipe, I think it would scream even more!

Ahem....I think any pics from the shenanigans you were involved in last night should be posted in this thread.

Yeah it, definitely feels like the car is freed up in the low end rpm range a bit more, giving the car that "lighter feeling" that people have described in other threads. It's a bit harder to noitce on the top end cause that's when the j-pipe comes into play.

Thanks J! I'm glad you found them useful. I wasn't sure if I really captured enough of what people would like to hear based on the distance I was traveling before I had to brake. I will have to take at least one better video with the camera behind the car from take off and go down a decent straight away so the car can be heard from some kind of distance and going through at least 4 of the gears.

^^^that one in the mall parking lot, 4 or 5 passes would have given people NASTY rasp if you hadn't gotten that resonator installed. Maybe it's because I had the rasp that I know what to listen for and it's pretty much totally gone with your new setup. Congrats!

Yeah I am really digging the resonator you told me about. I love the sound of the exhaust now! I think that thread about the mid muffler delete should be updated to use this resonator instead of the other one. So if people put an aftermarket J-Pipe on, they will already know they won't have any rasp.
We shall see what the "stage 3" setup with this resonator and stock J-Pipe sounds like once John gets his car in winter mode.

Yep, I got the same resonator. I almost paid like $75 on Amazon, but I found one on ebay for $30 lol. Glad you guys did the legwork on this to make my purchase much easier.

Your winterization looks fine....no green wheels.
