To be honest, I think it would be really close. I could check to see what kind of clearance I have in the next day or two tho and report back.

Congrats on both accounts, brother. And the Flex is the only "square-style" car I've ever liked....if that makes any difference.

The flex's have grown on me as well. A friend has one and now my gf wants one. They are very nice cars, and good road trip vehicles too. Not to mention the space it has on the inside! Congrats!

Well AZ, it's been real. Haven't been around in a long time, not even sure anymore who from the past is still around the boards, but I'd like to give a big overall thanks to all who have helped and also just contributed to the community over the years.

A new house even farther away from my job made me look into other commuting options, and even I was surprised at first at the route I took. Ended up in a loaded 14 Chevy Volt, and I gotta admit, I love the thing. For what I need my car to do at this point in life, it's been a fantastic commuting car.

So the car is now gone, but very very soon I'll have a thread up in the black market for everything I have left.

Thanks again AZ!

7,000 miles on it so far, and only used about 5 gallons of gas!

bummer to see you go man! it's been fun talking with you on here and seeing what great work you did with your TL! i've had the urge lately to sell mine and get a 2013 a6 or s4 but we are trying to buy a house right now and i gotta focus on that first haha. the car route you took is surprising but sounds like it made the most sense and you're enjoying it!! what do you like best about it?

did you get a good price on your car or did you trade it in?

gonna say private sale since he said those pics were for the ad.
Glad to see you around and well, Kurt.
I rode in one of those...and torqueeeee and damn they look the nicest of all the electrics (save for Tesla, obviously).
Great choice...loving the Flex too!

Been good times for sure! And the house played a huge role in me selling it. I had a far commute before, but then it became 70-80 mile round trip (depending on route) after we moved in January. We were using the wife's car for nearly all weekend duties, and I was basically just racking up miles and spending $200+ each month just to take the TL to work and then park in for the weekend in the garage. Then I read a post on Jalopnik about something or other, and in the comments someone mentioned the first gen Volts had depreciated like crazy and could be had for $15K coming off lease. The more I read, the more I was impressed with it. Turns out that its GM's highest rated car ever in it's customer satisfaction surveys. The deciding factor though was that on a full charge, it goes about 40 miles - basically my exact one way commute. My company has free chargers at work, so my trip home is free. All I pay anymore is about a dollar a day to charge it overnight. Running the numbers, I simply couldn't find a reason not to go with it.

As for driving it...that smooth, electric torque is more fun and impressive than you'd ever think it would be. Its no racecar obviously, but I have no problem being the fastest car of the light. Combine that with mostly one-pedal driving thanks to regenerative braking, and the driving experience is just fantastic. Honestly, controlling your speed both up and down with the gas pedal is so much more comfortable once you get used to it and smooth it out. I don't see myself wanting to go back to daily driving anything that doesn't have it.

Haha, it feels weird to say, but I really like the way it looks! I miss looking at the TL no doubt, but commuting is so much more pleasant in this that I've accepted the TL being gone.

And the sale was kind of a funny thing. First, it took me months to get around to getting it back to stock-ish form, and then washed up, and then finally listed. Started with craigslist and cars.com, and was then going to post here. Talked to a few people on craigslist, but no one scheduled to come out. Then about a week in, I got an email asking about the VIN to run a carfax. A few minutes after I sent it, the guy called me, explained that he was the used car manager of Joe Rizza Acura of Orland Park, and he could get me a check for $13,500 that day. I had been shooting for stars at first and listed it at $14,400, but didn't expect to get that. $13,500 in a check from a major local dealer was all I needed, and he texted me a picture of the signed check before I even left my house. Drove it the 50 miles to the dealer, he took it for a quick ride and showed it to Joe Rizza himself (huge dealer owner around here) and 15 minutes later he was Ubering me home, check in hand. Honestly was the easiest and best private sale I could ever have imagined. Considering the trade in value on KBB topped off at like $9,800 (the reason I never even considered trading it in when I got the Volt), I was pretty damn happy with the deal.

So that's the story of TL to Volt. Still a little hard to believe, and I never would have anticipated this a year ago, but I'm happy with where I'm at. Plus, nearly zero operating costs on the Volt will help me get closer to my eventual goal of something fun in that third garage slot

4! Something for me to shoot for! I have the driveway space to absorb that easily, too!
And yeah, couldn't have even wished for a transaction that smooth.

So as I sat at his desk, I noticed that his flat desk calendar had "Find TL" written on the day that he emailed me. My only thought is that he had a buyer lined up already. He probably did a 1 or 2 day turnaround on it with nearly no out of pocket costs to recondition, and then made a grand or so. Fine by me as I was more than happy with what I took away for the deal, and I didn't need to ever deal with no-shows and tire kickers.

Yeah, hopefully the new owner will appreciate the way I did! And it was sitting at 88,300 miles or so, so nice and low.

Yeah man...ironically, I no longer have the driveway space, just all of the cars.
In reality, it's stupid. I don't need more than 1 or 2.

Keep checking back in or make a new thread, Kurt.
