THE Kinetic Blue Pearl Progress Thread

So i bet you guys have seen a KBP Type S around the forum, but have no idea who it is!! I rarely post anything but wait no longer, I'm Tommy and this is my Kinetic Blue Pearl!!

In 2009 I got the the 07-08 base lip molded onto the Type S bumper. rolled around on this for a while

Import Reactor 2011

Then I was on a quest for a new bumper and set of wheels......

I was never a fan of the Type S Aspec. The 07-08 Base lip wasn't aggressive enough for me and I wanted to keep the honeycomb & chrome grill, so I got the 04-06 Aspec molded onto the Type S Bumper! Plus I plan on making a cf front splitter where the black piece is (dont know when though....)

Then fast forward to Import Reactor 2012

Steven Bell 04-15-2012 07:36 PM

Tommy, we REALLY need more details as to how you got the '04-'06 Aspec Lip moulded. I'm right there with you-I really don't like the Aspec Lip for the Type S.

Details....details....

Franchise1124 04-15-2012 09:55 PM

Nicely done!

myphuocinTL 04-15-2012 10:15 PM

Details on the 04-06 mold. This type of body work could be done wit any lip as long as you know a good body shop. The guy that did it for me is a friend of a team mate of mine. He also molded the 07-08 base lip onto my other Type S bumper.

Im not an expert on this, but it didnt' look like bondo all the way cause that'll probably crack the paint. It was some kind of black spray, probably a poly-something. The bumper flexes like normal and my 07-08 base lip has never had a crack in the paint. Also when he molded the 04-06 lip, i went ahead and told him to cover the tow hole and bumper plugs / the line that is connected to that. I figured it'll look more clean to take that out. =]

But thanks to jptl04, Jamie, for the inspiration though. he started trend with his custom 07-08 lip =D

Lol sorry friends, but TL has been sold for quite some time now. (That bumper too^)

Left the car At home in Houston when I left for the military, barely drove it, then I learned about the stock market and real estate, and no longer had a desire to invest in the car. It was a fun 8 years though! =]

Wheels still available if anyone is interested! Stock exhaust too. Hehe

rockstar143 03-07-2016 08:44 AM

Where are you located?

just curious how much was it to get it molded and painted like that? looks awesome and the way it should have come from factory. you can PM me if preferred

rockstar143 03-07-2016 09:38 AM

I actually prefer the separation. I like that it was obvious that it's an add on to the oem bumper and not part of it.
Plus, it's hard to find someone that actually knows how to mold in correctly so it'll never crack.

myphuocinTL 03-07-2016 12:31 PM

Car parts are in Houston. I'm living and working in Washington DC.

Getting the 04-06 lip on the type S bumper without some kind of mold work was impossible to look good.

Molding the bumper costed ~ $300 and painting ~$200

hisost 03-15-2016 11:46 PM

^ yeah I was considering the same process. Just like rockstar said, molding is a difficult process and prone to cracking especially in cold weather.

No way you're going to get the 04-06 aspec on without some cutting and hacking because of the small step/lip on the bottom of the type-s bumper (about half an inch). What my shop is doing is cutting the lip in half, mounting it, and fiberglassing in the cut to extend the lip to fit the new bumper
