Kinda bored, so I tested out this Metalcast Blue...

I needed to see what it looks like before I paint my calipers with it so...

The tools. First and foremost a gin & tonic with lime, some homemade dewaxer/degreaser (no it's not Ajax), a beat-up scotch bright, Dupli Adhesion Promoter (not pictured), Dupli Metalcast Groundcoat, Dupli Metalcast Blue, Dupli Engine Clear.

The Method. RTFM! Lol I pretty much just followed the instructions on the cans.

The Results...

And I thought these pics were kind of neat. Macros with the LED tool light reflection in the background. You can really see what the base coat looks like. And the gloss.

Impressions.

I actually like this color although it is not as neon blue as I thought it would be. That may have more to do with not putting it directly over chrome...I don't know. Anyways, it actually looks exactly like the color I painted my Prelude...Super Marine Blue.

And if I had to do the cover over again I would probably sand the hell out of it and get a nice smooth surface. But for 4 hours off then on with pics I'm happy!

In two weekends my calipers will get the same!

^Yea I will be doing the strut bar, the intake, and a few other pieces. Nothing overboard though.

No sanding just rubbed the hell out of it with the regular scotch pad. It was dull when I was done.

I know. I'm not the type that likes to spray down the engine bay so cleaning takes time. Now that I'm starting to care enough I'll clean it soon.

I think it will look good. I was actually thinking about maybe putting a type of night shades on top of it to darken it up a little. I dunno.

What other pieces do people paint? I want to paint the 3.2 VTEC raised lettering to match, the battery tie down, the intake, the strut bar. Anything else people like to paint?

Thinking of doing this myself. Great job man! Although I do agree, would have looked great if it was sanded smooth.

Thanks guy. I'll take some pics int he daylight when I get off work.

I have to say...not sure I'm feeling it. I may end up trying the torque and teal color. I'll post pics up later and see what you all think.

I think that it would be a great color for a car itself. So in my mind, it's two primary colors competing instead of the NBP being primary and this being an accent. Does that make sense? Although I bet it would look better on the calipers then a giant engine piece.

And after looking at it in the sun, I kind of like the textured look it has.

^Yea me too. See what I mean though? The whole car painted T&T would look dumb imo. But accent it looks great.

An entire car would look good with the metalcast blue. Lol.

It's basically Super Marine Blue. This car is hotness and an old friend from the prelude forums...

His girl wasn't bad either... Lol

Great job painting. I did the same with my old 04 TSX, same color. But I'm wondering, will that paint hold up to the heat of a brake caliper? Shouldn't you use caliper paint?

Both the metalcast ground coat and base coats are rated to 500* just like the engine enamel and caliper paints.

This was the method I was gonna use to do my calipers...even made some test strips and everything...if I redo my engine covers, I'll likely go this route.

Yea man...I live in Columbus/Dublin.

I do hang out with car people but I still hang out with my old OHPOC(Prelude) / OhioHonda friends.

I grab some wings with other 3Gers. Hell just for the simple fact that I can start hearing peoples exhausts before I buy one. Lolol :P
