I just tried BKF last Friday...best exhaust tip polishing method EVER. My ATLP tips look almost brand new again (after being through Colorado seasonal changes for almost 2 yrs) and that was after only working on each tip for about 5-10 mins. For $1.75 and some effort, you can't go wrong! 
I'm gonna polish up the tips again & hit the mufflers too when I have some more time.

Painting the inside of the exhaust tip gives it a illusion that makes it look bigger.
You were probably removing that painted surface thinking it was exhaust soot lol

Cant wait to pick up my Bar Keeper Friend and try this on my tips!! The results i am seeing just makes you wanna do it!! Good post OP!!!
