Illuminated OEM door sills

I bought a set of the ones sold here on the forum by Supercomputers, and I also bought a set of the ones from Ebay that are made from OEM sills. I got them for $175 + $18 shipping. (Starting price is $195 now)

Anyway I wanted to look at both and decide which style I liked better. I decided to go with the factory look. The only real down side is that dirt, etc. can get in the cut-out letters. I installed them today in a little over 2 hours.

The negative for each one goes to the door switch, and the positive for each one goes to the fuse box.

When the letters light up, does it match the door light? Looks like a lighter blue in the pics. Wonder how it looks in person. The camera always deceives.

It is a little lighter than the blue LEDs in the door, but it is close enough to look good in person.

Thanks. He is still selling them, but the starting bid went up $20 from when I won mine last month. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Thanks. Well, the sills just snap in, but you have to remove a lot of trim, run power to each one, and tap into the door switch for each door.

Right...the group buy was for something that was taped on top of the factory door sills. These are modified factory sills that replace the existing ones.

qwalls, Can you post an upclose picture of the lighted area. One of my concerns with these is exactly what you said "The only real down side is that dirt, etc. can get in the cut-out letters". Supercomputers ones (the group buy) does not run into this problem.

I'll try to get to it in the next day or so. Basically, the letters are cut out (like with a drimmel), and the light panel is below the letters, so dirt can get in the cut-out letters. The group buy ones don't have this problem...I just didn't like the look as well in the daytime. In the dark, the look was pretty similar. I also didn't want to mess with the tape and/or epoxy for the rear ones.

Door Sills

I bought the doors sills a month ago ..... and so far they look awesome! I guess it's acura cutting corners, but they should come factory installed. I've received tons of complements and yes it does match the blue from the dashboard. As there are several door sill vendors, I bought the modified original sills. I wanted an original factory look. The other guy replicates the original sills. As mentioned above, there may be an issue with dirt getting caught where they cut out the letters, but the leds are firmly pressed up against the metal, leaving virtually no room for dirt to enter. Ive had them for a month and I have yet to see any dirt build up. . I would add pictures but my car looks identical to the photos above. The photos don't do them any justice, they look way better in person.. If you can afford it, go for it

PS If anyone is interested email phil at ptbronco@optonline.net. Their based in New York

Hey Qwalls,

Those look really nice. I wonder if they use the same relay system as the ones sold by supercomputers. Also what kind of power connectors do they have? Basically, my thinking is if I can easily remove my addons from supercomputers and use the same taps and everything to hook these up. What kind of trim do you have to remove? What tools did you use for the install. Thanks.

It looks like the same power inverter and all that supercomputers used. I don't remember what his connector looked like though. I had to remove the trim along the door openings, the weather stripping for each door (bottom half) and the center pillar trim, and the front left kick panel.

Tools - screwdriver, crimp tool, pliars, volt meter, flashlight, electrical tape, wire taps. That's about it.

I think I may pick these up, I had some real problems with the OEM door sills. I'm thinking about putting a clear film over the door sills, that way dirt cant get in there.. almost like laminating the door sills before I install them...

I bet you could get the same type of laminate material and put it over or under the letters to prevent dirt from getting into the sills

Yeah, I know it's old, but I want to know if anyone has found a way to circumvent the dirt buildup issue? These are hellacious and I would like to do them when I get back! But only if someone has found a way to prevent that or get around it.

WELL????
You can prevent it by wiping your feet before you get in the car .........LOL

Seriously - the leds are firmly pressed up against the metal, leaving virtually no room for dirt to enter. I can't see them getting "dirty" anyway - who is their right mind steps on the door sill when the enter the car?

My kids !!! These door sills look a lot better than my other tape on sills. I might give Andy a call and then sell my tape on sills.

LOL - there ya go......

No kids here - The tape on ones are pretty cool, but you get what you pay for.

The OEM replacement ones are double the price of the overlays.

For those that are worried maybe some clear roadblocker film can be placed on them.

I'm not worried about it at all.......

Hey qwalls, I was looking at door sills BLUE and found out that there are 2 types of door sills. One of them has only "Acura" letters lighten up and others are "Acura" letters in rectangular box. Are those pictures of Illuminated Door Sills BLUE are purchased from "Supercomputers" or ones from Ebay that are made from OEM sills??? Cuz I just purchased pre-order Door Sills BLUE from Supercomputers and I want his product to be EXACT same thing as yours.

Thanks!!!

Sorry to bring this thread back up from the dead, but has anyone tried contacting this guy to get these sills? They are no longer on Ebay. I'm thinking of getting these for the OEM look.

I'm not worried about the dirt getting into them. Worst case I could use a water-based exterior polyurethane like ZAR to seal the top.

I did some searching and found it. Not sure if he is still doing it though.

Website: http://www.aembpautoconcepts.com/aem...-door-sill.htm

This is also the same person as the ebay seller andym22 however this person no longer has anything on ebay and did not respond to my ebay email to him. I just tried sending an email to the one posted on his site.

Really all that's needed is to find a place that does laser cutting. I already have the door sills that overlay so I can use the lighting strips from those. Sounds easy but finding a place could be hard.

the LED light in the door panel compliments the sills very nicely!
