It doesn't look like the lip got damaged. So insurance probably won't replace that.

The lip escaped any damage, so he should be able to remove it & put it on again, afterwards.

^ Yea it is great that the lip came away unscathed. Pop it off the damaged bumper, put it on the new bumper and all is well. If that is still the plan...

Hey man...I have to say that I had an F250 park his trailer hitch receiver on my bumper once...I got a lamp (it gets really hot) and heated up the plastic, put an angled piece of metal underneath it and hammered the heck out of it with a rubber mallet. Looks decent enough to NOT draw your eye to it...then again, black hides some things pretty well..

Trick with these types of damages IMO...is timing...had this happen to fiancees 08 accord bumper (my fault, actually) when I hit a tree root sticking up...I stuck my fist in there ASAP and was able to pop it right out. Since it only sat for a few minutes the paint didn't crack and the abs didn't form an outline of the dent in the plastic.

Good luck, bud...speedbumps...no way around them if you know what I mean. You'll get her back.

OP, sorry to see this, I know how much pride and time you put into your car, and for this to happen, just sucks! Looks like an easy fix though.

My reaction is mainly due to how much time I spend taking care of my car then seeing it just damaged like that. I always hand wash it myself once a week and repair anything that breaks as soon as I can. Lots of time and money went into my car and it hits me hard when it's damaged like this.

it's called perspective. while OP is freaking out, it could have been much, much worse. some call such thinking looking for "the silver lining" to the dark cloud. I even tried some more humor once my post was taken wrongly by the OP.

you mods need to calm down.

The cop around the parking lot said he didn't see it happen and there really wasn't much to do. I spent about 15 minutes looking around to see if any cars were damaged, but I found nothing. My guess is someone hit it while leaving.

That's your problem

D-town,

I hope all goes well with the bumper.

Also, in the lower right hand corner of each post, the middle icon is a multi-quote button. This allows you to respond to more than one person in a single post!

Cheers.

Trust me, I know...I'm a similarly anal and prideful TL owner...

curbed Rim
knocked mop handle against car
broke numerous clips over the years
backed into parking post
cracked foglight lense
most recently...
friggin bluetooth took a dump (tried replacing the capacitor on unit)
dash is cracked (ordered dash-topper).

Each of them got at least 5 minutes of silence and a "stupid ahole I am inner speech". Over time I've just looked at it as little scars that give the car character. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't sleep. I'm getting to an age where I realize that rolling with the punches is just as important as how hard I hit back.

thank you for this.

sometimes i forget how blunt i sound via forums, and my stay on certain boards has made me extremely thick skinned.

I can assure OP, in person my message would have sounded light-hearted.

on topic, i thnk you should try the heat gun. there's nothing for you to lose if you already plan on replacing it. my family has popped about 5 dents that way without any paint damage

I think this is true with many people on this site.

Its funny how different it is when you're hanging out in person.

Im pretty sure we'd be able to pop it back out, it looks as though it might be creased in one area.
