Headlight Moisture/Dead HID

Well my nightmare came true...when i blacked out my headlights my biggest worry was resealing them correctly. Well about a month after i did all that, my driver side light is full of condensation after i washed it. I dont know if it was the heat of the day that softened the sealent, a angle i hit it with water, or a combo of both. Removing the water and re-sealing isnt that big of a deal, but now my headlights are not working. Fog, and turn signal still work though. Im hoping i dont have to replace the HID, and that once i dry it all out it will come back on

Any one got any tips to a fix of the HID?

Oh and of course, this all happens two days before the Seattle meet

i actually know of someone that had there whole headlight unit full of water like half way full... and then he drained out all the water and resealed it and amazingly everything still work...

acura has some quality stuff and i bet they weren't expecting there headlights internals to ever be in contact with water, but they still work amazingly... it jsut took a while for the projector to clear up

and yea i might go to the H-Tech meet or the BIG AZ meet in august, if it doesnt work out i could help you out because i fixed my buddies... just kind of take everything apart and be very very careful ... not too hard but scary since these headlights are like over 500 bucks a piece

what you could also do is call acura and tell them your hid unit went out... and if they say its under warranty.. just buy a housing and swap pieces... a little cheaper that way

Right on man thanks for the info. I was hoping it would be like most electronics, and just once it drys out it would work. So there is another meet in seattle in august? I was talking about the one in issaquah this saturday, sorry for any confusion.
another one of my problems is, the fact i live on ft. lewis. So im gonna be working on my car in a parking lot, with borrowed tools because all of mine are in portland.

im surprised that it went out. There are 2 big packs in headlights that help keep them clear and dry. . I have had some issues w my headlights, just the drivers side. I get a little bit of condensation. I am about to take it apart again and really put a ton of silicone on it. let it sit for a little, try it again. Maybe check the connections also. it dosn't sound like that was enough water to make it fail.

Well i took them apart...dryed the water out. I think my problem is in the Ballast for the HID's there was a fair amount of water dripping out of it, and it has a funny smell. Hopefully it drys out the insides and starts working soon...because it still isnt working gonna call acura tomorrow and see how much that part is gonna run me.

Yeah,

That is not gonna be cheap...

Sorry to hear about your problem... Dr. Damian actually has my headlights, he got mine once i sent them to Retrofit Source.

YOU HAVE TO SEAL the SHIT out of them. I would recommend after putting the silicone on to clamp them with vice grips or a C-Hook with rubber on the end of both sides to ensure a tight seal...... That is what i did when i got mine back from Retrofit Source.....

You can never be too careful.

Plus it has only rained like .5 inches in 3 months in NORCAL so that does help some

PLease seal the shit out of them before they go back in

Oh man, I remember mine fogged up a little last year but they fixed themselves all on their own. Sorry to hear your problem but last time I checked, I saw Type S headlights for 830 for the pair, if you want to go that way. Good luck man

i should have wrote down the part number when i had it all apart. i took a picture of it with my phone because i was amazed that on the ballast box it says "mitsubishi motors" Ill figure this out, i think that is what is wrong, and if so its a 160$ fix

and for those wondering...its part numb 8 on this diagram.

Don't be worried, as long as you put in alot of effort sealing it and whatever you should be fine. But then again, I remember reading ST04Louis's thread when he first got em done and he did a good job with the sealing
