Got my AT Type-S shift knob from Slowriderr - PICS!!!

As most of you know I sent Slowriderr(Chris) my oem type-s AT shift knob so he could cnc one just like he did for the MT knob for us AT guys. Chris and I met up this weekend here in Charlotte and he hand delivered my knob. All I have to say is holy shit, this thing looks and feels sick! At first the knob did not fit, Chris was a little perplexed by this, but he took some measurements and said not worry as he would hand deliver a proper fitting one to me at work the next day. True to his word he was at my place of business with a proper fitting knob and it went on without a hitch. The knob is heavy, beefy and sits lower than stock by more than a few inches. I am sure it could go lower if you want to cut your shifter, but thats a mod I am gonna pass on for now. You can tell a lot of time and hard work went into these, and I have to give props to Chris for making these. I wanted to mod mine just a little bit, so I painted the "TL" and the "Type-S" on the top of the knob. Below are before pics and some after installed in the car pics. I would highly recommend picking one of these up as they feel like butter, my whole ride home from work my hand did not move off of it.

Chris it was great meeting you, hopefully you can get down here for our next Azine meet. Thanks again for all your hard work and attention to detail. Job well done

here's the knob before paint

you have no idea how long it took to tape this bad boy up!!

installed and looking rather sexy

Wow I bet that tape work took forever lol

Anyways looks nice. Any closeups after paint? I think I might like it better before the paint. Looked pretty clean!

Great work on the knob but the thin shaft killed it. I'll stay with the oem.

I will try and shoot some pics at a close up angle, I am not 100% pleased with how the paint came out. Some of it bled and it was impossible to tape off every little spot. And yes the tape took a loooooooong time!

JP,
I knew you would like it buddy, just another little custom touch to add to the TLS.

I see what your saying, however I tend to like the look of it. Slowriderr molded this after the new Audi R8 knob, which looks amazing. All in all its clean and feels awesome.

Lets just say that taping the "type-s" took just about an hour.

Don't think that I didn't think about that. I haven't ruled that out yet. Whats cool id you can go really low if you cut it and not have to worry too much about manual mode clearence as it is not tapered like the oem one. I will let you do it first see how it looks then follow your lead

Golf, I like it. At first, it looked too big to me as well. But I kept looking at it and I really like it.

JP-what pieces did you send out to get Carbon Fibered? I'm anxious to see them!

i should get my knob in like a week or so. the CF'd parts will take a while like 3 weeks. its an interior part. i got bored LOL. you will see. i might get the real CF interior trim that vinni has in his type-s. its the real deal and would match this part well. i'll keep you guys posted

golfjwr, when i get it i'll prolly cut the shaft down just a bit, and rethread, i'll post pics. your paint job on it look sweet. dunno if i'll do that though.

Kinda gives it a 6 speed look. If i didnt know that was on a automatic i would of thought it was a short shifter with a sick knob. I know the intense work that probably went into solid works to get that much detail. Sick

Funny you should ask. I just spoke with Chris(slowriderr) and he informed me that one of our stellar vendors Uncald4 is now gonna be distributing these. I think we all know the type of work that Uncald4 puts out and like most vendors here he is pretty picky with what he puts his name on

golfjwr---that's a great first attempt! I loved the masking job and would have thought it would turn out better.

However, I can't wait to see the sickness you create using JnC's method!

Cut the shaft, sits alot lower

I was joking around with Jay(jptl04) that I was gonna let him be the test mule for cutting the shaft down. I couldn't wait, so I went ahead and did it! Now the the knob sits really low and looks even beter. Went over Jon's(mmade22) house yesterday and we began to cut away.
we started off with a mini hacksaw

10 minutes and 2 blades later, we hadn't made much progress

it was time get the dremel out

this baby did the job

sitting nice and low

Big thanks to Jon for all his help and willingness to always have his tools and his garage ready for any mod. Of course you know I had to snap a few shots of very clean WDP...
Custom tinted tails, night shaded side markers, type-s exhaust, Aspec kit, Aspec rims....yeah thats tight

really liking the look of the blackout'd emblem

Nice Jesse! I loved the pictures with the sparks flying from the Dremel. What was I thinking of starting with that saw? That shaft was some thick hard steel. The dremel is the only way to go. Love the close up picture of my rear emblem....Might have to make that my new avatar. JPT04, add this to your mod list on that sexy ass WDP.
