Going Custom on Stock Wheels n' Calipers

It's a shop in SoCal, about 10 miles south east of Los Angeles. These are real cool peeps, even though they were not recommended by my local dealer (claimed low quality work & inability to meet dead lines). But I was EXTREMELY happy with the results. Color match and quality are great. Only problem was constant delays; promised in a week & a half & ended up taking almost three weeks! Cost was 70 bucks each wheel and 20 bucks to mount and balance. But after Oscar was done, he said next time he's charging 120-130 per wheel for that type of color matching, cuz he bearly made a dime on this.

Painted all 4 calipers myself. I did it the hard way; Unmounted & Dissasembled each caliper, taped & sprayed; 3 coats Duplicolor Metalcast "Ground Coat", then 3 coats Metalcast Anodized Red. The effect is amazing! Looks like the color of the tailights. Recommend it if you wanna go beyond plain old red.

I'll post more pics soon!

Wow that looks realllllllly good!! The only thing I would recommend doing is blacking out your headlights then you'll really be rocking the black theme!

You wont regret it. I know I don't. as long as it gets done right! "S" wheels are nice, man. They'll look sick in NBP powder coat!

Yeah, I wanna black out those taillights. Just kinda scared of condensation getting in. is a tint or paint & can you see the turn signal at all?

looks good but, he wants $120 a wheel to paint it? buffph

Much less expensive to do it yourself with sanding everything.

Well you can go both ways with tint or paint on the inside which looks better in my opinion and you can see the turnsignals but not AS bright. I think I might be going "custom on my stock rims" soon haha except I think I'll do gunmetal on black TL. Have the ASpec on the way

But he powerder coated the rims. I think it requires some baking. I was thinking about it but the problem is I don't know if baking the rims at such a high heat will decrease the structural integrity of the rims or not.

Talking

Looks really GOOD!!!

I am not feeling the red Acura logos on the Center Caps though, think it would look better all the same NBP....... Especially since you will probably end up going TYPE-S markers and tails OR blacked out Markers and tails...

They dont make the calipers POP as much, and draw to much attention to the caps and not enough to the calipers.....

very original though

A lot of after-market, high end wheels come powder coated from the factory. So I don't think it has any affect on wheel integrity.

Thanks for the compliment. Originally the caps where all black, but they looked too plain to me, I like the detail it adds & it compliments the whole set up.

I'll be doing the rotor hubs next. Probably semi-gloss black. Anyone ever see any anodized red or black wheel lugs? I think black lugs would look dope, but if I paint them, it'll chip like in a minute!

Oh shit!!!!!!! I'm doing this!! I have a new set of stocks just sitting in storage! I got a quote for $200 per wheel with a polished lip. That sucks compared to your price, but maybe it's more because of the polished lip. I'm going to ask about it.

Looks hella good man!!!!!!!! Thanks for the insight on what my car will look like doing this! Stay tuned fellas!!!

Man, I'm gonna really be stealth now!!!!

Those look great!!! I actually had that same idea (minus the "anodized" calipers) for my TL. Here are the concepts I made:

The original pics I used for these are someones from AZ.

Naaah...don't wanna get that crazy with the black out. I want some contrast in some areas. I wish the s grill would fit. black chrome would look great. So far, I will black out the amber from the headlights, smoke the rear side markers, stock tails are getting a LIGHT smoking as we speak, if I like, I'll also lightly smoke the s tails.

My friend had his caliper painted at this place in Alhambra.
http://www.fastforwardwheels.com/

Ask for Eli. Very nice person. He did a few cars from my friend...Ferrari 360, Porsche 996, and BMW 645. He charges $100 per caliper and guarantee paint won't flake off. He did cars that customer use as track cars and nothing wrong with it. Turn around time is 1 week or 2 MAX. But you need to disassemble your caliper. He can disassemble for you but additional charge.
