Getting my windshield tinted tomorrow

Just wanted to let you guys know. Getting it done in 35%. I have 20% on all the other windows. Was hoping members from NY/Nj can chime in on what to do about the inspection/registration stickers. My friends have the windshields done and one has laminated the inspection/registration sticker and he just taped them on. Other just taped it without laminating it.

Seems like its a luck thing when getting a ticket. One of my buddies has had windshield tint for 3 years on all his cars (35%) and he has never gotten a ticket, while the other guy got it done 1 month ago and got 2 tickets already.

Reason I am asking about the sticker placement is because here in NY whenever a cop passes you, you can see them look at your stickers. So if you have tint it will be a dead giveaway.

For my window tints I make a template from a "tint shop", its a receipt stating I am getting my tints off in two weeks. I make it every other two weeks. Lastly I have south florida Acura (miami) dealer plates so if I ever get pulled over I simply tell them I got the car from Miami, I am getting my tints off in two weeks and hope for the best. Hasn't ever really happened though. I have gotten pulled over but never really ticketed for tints.

PBA card ftw!

I wish you LOTS of luck if you end up having to drive in the rain at night.

- PBA card isn't going to do anything.

I have driven with my buddy who has 8k lights in his 335i with 35% windshield tint. Didn't have any problems. Sure its a bit harder to see but it actually helps. I get headaches (yes really) when I drive at night from other cars headlights, tint made it seem so much better.

I forgot to add. Here in NY you cant be pulled over for JUST window tint. You must be doing something else wrong. To get a correct legal accurate reading they have to clean and wipe down the window before applying the tint meter.....otherwise the reading is not valid and will get thrown out in court.

They are cracking down more people in NY/CT .. what i have seen people do is tint around the reg. sticker and also go with a lighter tint then 35% ..because when you think about it, all the other windows are already dark

Not a fan of windshield tint, but That PBA card does work wonders.

I have a Family Member one, and I've been pulled over numerous times and nothing has come of it.

True, only problem I see is with checkpoints. You can spot them though and make some quick detours lol.

To be honest right now with 20% and if the sun is shining brightly with no clouds it looks like my rear tints are 35% and my fronts like 0%. My tint is so light right now. Its my interior color which is beige, so tinting the windshield at 35% wont really look that dark.

My friend just had the guy tint around his registration and stuff so it doesnt look different at all. But yea cops around me (LI) have been giving out mad windshield tickets lately. My cousin got pulled over and a cop took a pen and made the ill scratch on it and walked away after giving him the ticket- so good luck with that

It's a card from the Policemen's Benevolent Association, the union for most of the town's in NJ. It basically states that you are a family member or a friend of an officer.

This nassau county? My friend with the 335 got pulled over in nassau county by two cops. However his uncle knows some people so he got them dropped. He runs without a front plate so hes a bigger target. Cop that made the scratch sounds like a total typical douchebag nassau county cop.

I forgot to add. Here in NY you cant be pulled over for JUST window tint. You must be doing something else wrong. If a cop sees a car thats tinted go by, legally they cant just pull you over for that. But since when do cops actually "legally" follow the rules? Another thing is, cops can't measure windshield tint, they can only measure side windows with that device. To get a correct legal accurate reading they have to clean and wipe down the window before applying the tint meter.....otherwise the reading is no valid and will get thrown out in court.

in NY, you will get pulled over for only tints.
They are illegal,
illegal = get pulled over.

I know what you mean though. Trust me, I've fought the fight and you will lose.

The only window you can tint is the rear windshield.
Everything else has to be at a minimum of 70%

I've been stopped on the grand central by highway patrol numerous times for tint. Nothing else but tint. Since you want the windshield for medical reasons, get a doctor to sign off on it. Keep the paperworth with your car reg. and ins. papers.

Lower your windows all the way whne approaching a check point. If they want you to raise the windows, say no...your invoking your 5th amendment. ( might sound stupid but this is what a defense lawyer told me. )

Not sure what the law is in NY but in Florida you can be pulled over for tint alone. I'm willing to bet the same applies in NY but again I am not sure and too lazy to do the research. Got a link?

True, LEO's can't measure windshield tint but they don't have to because it is illegal unless there is some sort of exemption (think medical)

My brother had his car impounded 2 yrs ago cause of windshield tint. He got a fix it ticket refused to take his tint off and got pulled over and they impounded his car. Said it was unsafe to drive. This is in GA though. Just be careful. Lot of states cops can pull you over for windshield tint.

I love having the windshield done. I only do a 50% tint though. It makes so much of a difference. I don't ever get blinded by other cars or the sun and it keeps my dash protected. I live in TN some areas are worse than others about tint and I just stay away from those areas or keep the windows down. Especially bc I have 5% all around and 50% on the windshield so the police would have a field day with that.

I got PBA family member cards, chief of police, wallet badge, I'd card & PBA shield in my front windshield. So, whats the problem? NOTHING, I don't speed! My rear windows are all tinted dark on the TLS. Not the front windows which is legal is NJ. Alot of cops here in north jersey have front tinted windows in their personal vehicles & silver PBA member shields displayed in front windshield so they don't get stopped. No PBA shield? YOU WILL BE STOPPED. You're asking for trouble IMO. Here's a tip directly from a cop friend of mine: If you have tinted windows & get stopped at night by a cop immediately turn on your interior lights & roll down ALL windows then keep both hands on steering wheel. This will put the officer at ease & he/she can see inside the car from behind & while walking up. PBA cards? I got stopped by a rookie cop 3 years ago on my extremely fast motorcycle, he got mouthy with me for no reason at all, so I gave him my card which was signed by a NJ state PBA delegate & I told him: "Let's call my friend right now, on his cell phone, and he will then call your PBA president at HOME right now 10:30pm" He responded: Mr. L&%$# here are your documents please get home safely.

PBA card ftw!

Making a fake receipt every two weeks? Sounds like a whole lot more effort than its worth.

50% is more than dark enough for windshield...and even that's not smart. Who are you hiding from anyway?

You got some guts to be risking that... You already have a dark colored interior and your other windows tinted dark. now front windshield too...

I don't know, but down here that's just asking for a ticket. IDK about NY though. Good luck getting away with it, but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if you come back posting about a fix-it ticket within a few months.

Looks cool but it's not for me. I got pulled over a couple time with my CLs for tinted windows. Tinted windshield for me would have been like putting neon lights that say "TICKET MY CAR."

Yeah I would've recommended 50% on the windshield. Plenty dark. 35% is too risky IMO. Other than that it looks good Atleast.

My tinted windshield

Took another picture in the sunlight today. Looks great. I went for a drive this evening. Definitely takes time to get used to, not too bad. I was expecting much worse but manageable. Does not help that I have 8k hids.....but its honestly not bad at all.

Enough talk. Pictures.
