First Time DSLR pictures
So I picked up a Nikon D40 today. Started taking just a few pictures, these are not edited at all. Any input would be great! Positive or negative, I don't care just as long as it will help me take better pictures.
I am brand new to this and have a good amount to learn, and I can't wait to get better and better. I did not mess with the aperture or any of that because to be honest, I am not sure what exactly each of those settings do. So if anyone has any input on what those settings mean, that would be awesome!

This next one I like the best, not sure why, I hate spiders haha.

Haha, my brother wanted to see how good it can focus on a portrait of him.

Again, all input is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I believe aperture determines how big the lens will open... Not really sure how to explain.
The aperture acts as the pupil of the lens. I think it was ..... the higher the aperture the smaller the lens will open. The lower the aperture the more it will open... or it could be vice versa.
Adjusting this will allow how much light can get into the lens [I think].
At the same time.... adjusting the shutter speed/length can also determine how much light will go in. The higher the number for your shutter speed the quicky it takes a shot... the lower the number the longer the shutter stays open.
Great shots by the way, what camera you using?

I was going to go to school to learn about photography but I think it is hard to get a good paying job in that field. So I am going to pursue Business courses and maybe oneday if I am still into it, I will attempt to start some kind of photography business but I dont know, maybe I am in over my head haha
but goodlookin out with that forum mane!
