First Mountain Drive in my TL

Drove 250 miles through the SC/NC mountains today, including about a 50 mi stretch along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I've had my stock 2008 TL for about 3 months and this was the 1st time I've driven in the mountains. I'm very impressed! The parkway has some fairly tight turns, but also has lots of long sweeping curves that you can get some good speed on. The road is very well engineered, and this time of year there's very little traffic. And of course, there's great scenery!

Here are a few photos and my 1st youtube video.

How fast did you go on those "twisties"? After taking my car for a "run" at bear mountain a few weeks ago, I have decided to get a Progress RSB before I ever attempt that again. LOL. Scary in the TL.

That looks really fun and scenic! I am actually going to do my first mountain run in few days when I go up to Highlands, NC. It probably isn't going to be as good at the blue ridge, but you never know.

also, where there any cops along the way? because i would hate for them to ruin my very spirited driving... lol

I don't know how fast I got on the extreme twisties on SC/GA/NC Hwy 28 (Walhalla, SC to Highlands, NC). Might have touched 50 or 60; many tight turns down around 25 to 30, looking out the drivers side window to see the road ahead! The pavement was damp in places, and some leaves in places too. Same with US 276 between the Blue Ridge Parkway and Brevard, NC. Some amazingly tight double-back hairpins, plus some rain.

I hit 70 a couple of times up on the Parkway, and I was almost to 80 once for a moment. Dry road and no fog or traffic on those sections (and iPhone not out at those speeds!).

The TL felt very stable and solid. I used the sport shift quite a bit, primarily to downshift ahead of turns and to avoid riding the brakes on long down slopes.

The only law enforcement I saw was escorting a funeral procession in Brevard. I suspect they must be out on the interstate more this holiday week.

All in all great fun and a very enjoyable drive!

I love GMR! So much fun and I've never seen much traffic up there. The curves are much more tight and twisty than the ones in the OP's video. Just watch out for the cops! Me and a few friends got hassled by some douchebag cops.

How do you get to that Nav screen that shows the current location and elevation? I've never seen that on mine before...

Just touch the spot where you are on the screen ("the vehicle position icon"). Note you can then save that location in an address book.

The manual states:

NOTE:
The elevation will not appear when the
system is temporarily lacking proper
GPS information. The system elevation
may not agree with elevations shown on
roadside elevation signs, and may
fluctuate plus or minus 30 metres or more.
