So it's probably not too great for the car to just spray it without disassembly?

Could tape something behind the grille so it doesn't get any further than the grill? I wanna do this but I'm too damn lazy to take it apart lol

The first time I did it I left the bumper on te car and taped off around it with paper behind the opening in the grille. The second time I had the bumper off the car

Looks awesome man, great job! Leaving the hood trim silver was a very nice choice, looks sick.

I'm about plasti-dip my grille this weekend as well haha

I like what you did. I did the entire grill and surrounding trim on my WDP. Still thinking about possibly taking off the plastidip on the trim pieces. OR maybe just accenting that middle bar w/removing the indented horizontal channel. The back A emblem and trim turned out great too!

Either way it'll look great once I install the A-Spec body kit!

Nice job. This is still my favorite (cheap) mod that I have done on my car. I did everything but the "A" on my grille, just like Layjay007's. I'm thinking of getting an amped embelm on the front, so at night time it looks like a floating, glowing "A" in the middle.

Yes sir, it was late afternoon here with clouds and snow so I didn't want to move it out of the garage.

I had paper behind the grill, surprisingly not much gets through anyway, probably because I sprayed at angles to hit all the parts.

Watch the video on dipyourcar.com, great tips like don't tape tight to what your are spraying. I originally left all the silver trim undipped but decided after first spraying grill only that I wanted to spray silver below hood. Definitely like this look.

Btw where's the explanation part in your "DIY"

Or do you mean it's a DIY mod that you pulled off? LOL

Pretty obvious it is a DIY I pulled off. I think the explanation of this has been shown a number of times.

Looks like I may have to do my lower grills by the fog lights after the A-Spec install.

did mine too cause i was inspired by the OP. I lifted my hood out of the way. Took off the front plastics covering the rad support area and slid some paper behind the grille.

i thought about it but i wanted something to offset the black...i'd rather not make it all black and look like a gaping hole with or without the A

but we'll see. It's all reversible anyway! haha. plus my headlights arent blacked out, so i'd like to leave some remaining trim pieces for a 2 tone approach.

Yeah I feel ya. I need to do this soon. Is it really as easy to remove as it seems?? I would fear how it holds up to the elements like extreme heat, bugs, etc

yes it's really easy to remove. The trick as shown in guides is not to tape right along the edge of the area you want to paint, but to have a small gap so you're overspraying by just a hair.

the plastidip will conform into the crevice and when you pull the tape off, it makes a clean edge and pulls the overspray off too. Any overspray that you miss can be just rolled/rubbed off. I was a little skeptical, but it's pretty easy! Also, you need to layer the plastidip so removal is easier. I did 4 coats, 15 minutes in between.

if you look at the first picture you can see i didnt tape right up along the silver trim on the bumper, and left some of my ABP paint showing.

edit: uploaded another picture with the tape removal process:

^yes that's where I picked mine up this morning. They only carry black, but dipyourcar.com has a few other colors, metalizer (which is sprayed onto a base plastidip color), and clear.

join the plasti-dip revolution!

thank you! and thanks for the thread! haha

I changed mine up again...the one silver trim was bugging me haha. A little more OEM now:

I just peeled the dip off like any other trim piece...came off easy even after being on the car for a good 5 days.
