Angry After 8 hours of waiting...this happens

So, on friday my ht type 2 coilovers came in and I had previously spoke with a friend who works with cars and trucks too see if he could put them on. We had planned on doing it for awhile, and he began working on it at 1 on saturday. So... we finished at about 10...(the rear was a bitch) It took him awhile to figure out how to get the stock coils off on the first wheel. After he was done i was satisfied but it was too low for my taste in the back and after being there for over 8 hours watching him work on my car and taking breaks in between, i was tired cause the night before i previously had got 3 hours of sleep and wanted to go home. I was just going too come back in the morning to get it adjusted to the right height.

(Pics were taking from my iPhone 4)

So after about 2 minutes of driving down the road headed home, this happens...

edit - the fucking moron forgot to tighten the lugnuts on my car, I had to find them on the road and my dad and I stuck with my car untill 5 in the morning after being rejected from 3 tow companies because the car was too low. and finally one company came and jacked the car and put the tire back on.

That sucks bigtime.

Biggest thing here is to learn a lesson. If you take it to a shop, only use one you trust, and still double check all the work that is done before you drive it anywhere, and when something like this happens, you can hold them accountable.

But when you have work done by "A friend that works with cars and trucks" you need to check even closer. You're going to have a lot harder time holding him responsible, and accidents like this can ruin friendships.

If you are going to put these types of aftermarket parts on your car, your best bet is to learn to do it yourself, and learn to do it properly. That way, if something goes wrong, you can blame only yourself, but who is going to be more careful working on your car than you?

Unfortunately, another lesson learned the hard way.

reminds me of an old thread where someone trusted "a friend" to do work...and it went all FUBAR due to a missing/broken end link or something. also a WDP TL too.

That's why we have stuff like this on the site:

D-091: DIY:Front and read damper/shock spring replacement
https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/fm-modulators-group-purchase-173827/

So even if you don't know quite what you're doing, you can make sure the person who says he knows does it right.

If neither of you know what you're doing or can't follow instructions, take it to a pro.

You noobs (and some of you not-so-noobs) need to spend more time in the 3G Garage. If you do, $hit like is MUCH less likely to happen.

Here's the link (Bookmark it): https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-garage-faq-3g-tl-newbies-553554/

(Edit) - OP hope the damage isn't too bad and you get everything squared away.

biggest hassle is figuring out how to take out the back seat, but even then it should not take 4 hours to do just that though

and even then you had full replacement coilovers, so not like you really have to swap over shocks or anything

but

and OP if it had taken that long really, i would have just waited till mourning to take it out, so that you could doable check all of your/his work when not tired

could have probably called up your dad for a ride home
or even have that friend given you a ride home

Sorry man, but IMO you need to go after your friend/his parents for the cost of the repair. Even if insurance decides they want to cover it, your rates will increase. Why should you have to pay for someone else's mistakes?

My
you can't go after someone that just "helped" you regardless if you even paid some $$$ if they are not licensed to do this type of work them its your own risk to use them and the fault and any repairs will fall on you that is just how it is.

basically if they where doing it privately, you don't have much recourse; especially if you never even got a receipt

also OP, i would replace those wheel studs as a minimum, to make sure they have not been stretched, bent or anything

the problem here, is OP sat and watched..
OP should learn how to help!

When ever a member comes over to my house to install something, we always go over the risk and everyone helps out, double checking each others work.

OP - unfortunate outcome here.

Even if it takes YOU longer than "normal", always best to do your own work on your car. At least you know what you did/may not have done when all is said and done.

Hope everything works out for you.

This is one of those things that the OP will hopefully learn from. He had the choice of getting it installed by a professional so he should accept all blame. I am a DIY guy and I seek help from friends/azine members from time to time as it is fun and it saves a buck or two. At the same time, if I am going to attempt something I have never done before I do read/research so I have an idea of what is going to take place. I would never try to blame a person who offered help on an install if things went south. Good Luck on the repairs

A man of his word, After we had gotten done with TLDude's Spring install, his electrical system went haywire.
I was afraid that I did something that affected his car.
Dennis never came after me, accusing me of anything. Thank you Dennis for being an honest guy.
