1750 miles = 36MPG

Just made a 1750 mile trip from Phoenix to Nashville. I took the I-10 south to Dallas and then the I-20 to I-40 into Nashville. I used 58.791 Gallons of fuel. The trip was 1750.06 so my total average mpg was 29.766. I averaged 75-80mph the entire trip and had a few stops that the car sat at idle for at least an hour. At one point I saw 36 mpg and that was for the entire duration of that tank of fuel. Heres a pic from when I stopped to fill up and stretch. Ill be heading back to Phoenix Wednesday but taking a different route. It'll be interesting to see how much the mpg changes on a different route.

Your post title says 1750 miles you got 36 mpg, in your post you said that in 1750 miles you got 29 mpg which one is it. On your MID it only says 175 miles. Throwing the BS flag out there especially since you said you left it idling for more than an hour. I'm sorry that is impossible.

Thats pretty good driving 75-80. You could probably get a little more out of it doing 65.

I think you are reading it wrong. My total average MPG for the entire 1750 miles was 29.766 hand calculated based on the total number of miles driven from start to finish and the total amount of fuel consumed during the trip.

The 36mpg was during one of drives between fill ups. I believe it was between Abilene and Dallas. This portion of the trip was about 175 miles. I think on that part I didn't idle until after I filled up. So yes that part is wrong.

I'm heading back to Phoenix in the morning along I-40. I'll post pics of my receipts when I get home and we will see what I get on the way back.

Nothing has been done to the car other than an oil change about 400 miles prior to taking this trip. The car has me, my wife, my 2 year old and my daughter and all of our clothes and gear in the trunk. The car is also a 6MT with 140K. I did see some high spikes in the areas I did have to drive 65mph but that takes to long. My trip home is supposed to be in the high 90s the whole way. Lets see what I can get on the way back.

thats about what mine was at on my 2000+ trip last week, it mainly stayed at 30mpg. I also was traveling on I-40. I did hit 31 one time after a fill up though. it was me, my girl, her dog and our 2 suitcases, plus my system in the back lol

The worst I saw was 26 through the mountains in Arkansas and Tennessee but I was booking it by that time. I wanted to get here fast so I was in and our of the throttle the whole time. The rest of the trip I was on Cruise Control which probably helped the MPG. The last time I took I-40 was when I first bought the car and was taking it home. I think I saw a high of 33 on that trip. We'll see. Leaving at 8 am
