07 TL-S Build
Hello Everyone! I just picked up a 2007 TL Type S 6 Speed with 70K miiles in NBP.

I have a lot of plans for this car and will post my progress as well as some more pictures as time goes on! |
Nice Congrats

Nice pick up!

If you don't mind sharing, how much did you pick the TL up for? That's pretty low mileage car, super jealous! Congrats!

Congrats man!! Looks beautiful! Is the car lowered? Do you have pics of rust? |
Nice pickup OP! Slap an Aspec Kit on that ASAP.
I haven't seen a type-s with the tan interior and exterior being NBP, very interesting. Hopefully the paint is holding up well, judging from the pics, looks like the previous owner(s) took good care of it! |

Took a couple of pictures of the car this morning.

I believe this is caused from this car being in an accident on this side because you can tell there has been some paint and body work on the driver side. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...9504c4a7d0.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...59c7c3b56c.jpg |
Very nice, clean car. You'll get another 200,000 miles out of it with proper care. I never see a Type S in black at all. That rust can be repaired. My 07' Type S had it in the same location on passenger side. With only 25 miles on it back then an old lady hit me. Entire quarter panel was replaced but 6 months later it kept rusting out. I brought it back to the body shop 5 times over the next several years and they repaired it, or so I thought. I gave up and last year brought it to another shop, I was told the rust was due to poor prep work, previous shop didn't prime or seal the quarter on the inside, then stuffed it with body filler. Its now fixed and cost me $1200, this shop had to weld in new panel patches. How long will it hold up? Not sure, but he said if it doesn't just bring it back. It's amazing how a good, quality shop can blend paint. Be sure to find a good, reputable shop to repair it.

For the price paid (definitely at the extreme upper end), I would have demanded they do the body work before delivery.

Story time: This TL was located out of state (Chicago) so I got in contact with the dealership and requested a bunch of pictures of the car. It looked really clean and well maintained along with all major services done and a "clean" carfax. I decided to pull the trigger so I sold my previous vehicle and scheduled a flight out to drive it home. I get everything packed up and ready to go and then my flight was cancelled... I had no vehicle at this point and wasn't able to reschedule a flight for about a week due to work. I contacted the salesman and decided to have it shipped since that would ultimately be faster (or so I thought). So I sent them the payment for the car and they sent me all the paperwork to fill out. During this period was when Chicago was experiencing the polar vortex so needless to say no one was wanting to pick up and deliver the car and that meant more and more time without a vehicle... I then decided after about 5 days of no one wanting to deliver the car, I would fly out. At this point all the paperwork is signed and the car is mine. I arrived at the dealership on Saturday (2/2/19) evening to pick it up, I looked over the car (it was dark outside) it looked good, but not as good as I was hoping. At this point I was just excited to own this TL so we hit the road. The car did amazing on the trip, we had very little stops during this 1000 mile trip which means the TL didn't get much of a break (Arrived in CO on 2/3/19). Once I got it home and had some time to really examine the car, I realized that I paid a lot for this car. At this point, lesson learned NEVER buy a vehicle sight unseen... (The gf even told me to go look at it beforehand because she knows how I am :whyme:) This was my stupid mistake and if I would have gone and looked at the car I would have either had the items repaired for the price I paid or offered them less. It is what it is at this point and I plan on going over the car very meticulously to make sure everything is as perfect as I can get it. It will take some time and more money, but I learned a very valuable lesson with this car. On the positive side, this thing is a blast to drive and sounds amazing with the XLR8 exhaust. |
So long as you're happy, that's what matters man. It's just a bit more of an expensive lessons learned.

Very true....

As you can tell the driver side quarter panel has had some work done to it along with the front driver side fender. There are also paint chips around the window, seems when it was removed/installed the paint was damaged.

Wow...yea, I DEFINITELY would have checked out the car in person before pulling the trigger if I am spending that much on a car. But I do know what you are talking about with the excitement of getting a car of your dreams. Enjoy it!

Its been awhile since I posted, here she is no more rust on the quarter panel!

nice update, I almost bought a NBP with Taupe interior when I shopping for a Type Slow tho.

Looking good! 6-Speed :yum:

I totally understand your situation, I get super excited about car purchases too which results in me being less thorough than I should be.
It's a shame about the rust and the other things you've noticed, but at the end of the day you have a nice Type S you get to drive around. As long as the car is reliable and runs well and you enjoy it, you're good. Plus, the way I try to look at it, you have not yet 'lost' money on it, that only comes once you sell it. I know I have overpaid for cars, maybe I could start a club... |
