'06 TL Daily Driver Restore

So I was hoping to pick up a RRP as a daily driver. Found one and it was in poor condition to say the least. But a cheap price cash you get what you pay for. I'll post more pics and notes as I progress toward cleaning her up and taking care of maintenance. She was on her death bed but now she is on her way back to health. All panels had original Vin numbers at least. Any suggestions are welcome too.

End Game:
A-spec kit
Drop
Tint
Tablet install
Quad tips
Roof trunk spoilers
Brembo caliper/brakes
HID lower grille fogs
......but first things first
ordered Both rear Hub & bearings
rotors & pads
power steering pump o ring
serpentine belt
coolant cap
OEM parchment seat leather front
hood lifts
lower control arm bushings to start

OE seat leather coming

Jeez. Could barely see the road

License plate scuff outline. May just do a new bumper

Disgusting

Leaking

Could barely rotate rear rotors

Car had 4 different tires on the wheels. How does that even happen

These look really good with the Aspecs

Luckily no one bought these last year and i closed the thread.

Washed and starting buffing out some scuff and scratch marks

Cheers!

looks like you don't want to put miles on the silver TL lol, trust me I have 3 TLs but my is the opposite as you. The Type S has 114k miles, 07 WDP has 79k miles and the 08 WDP has 53k miles lol, I am looking forward to this restore thread.

I would skip the OEM leather cover and order what horseshoez mentioned, BTW welcome to the red side.

Looking forward to what you do with this! Quick question though....
even if you paid next to nothing for the car, with all the work that will be required.....and the costs......wouldn't it be better to just use that money towards a better maintained TL?

Its one of thise situations where i get to start from ground zero. This is fun for me. TL's in Atlanta metro still cost alot. Its crazy but for a $1500 more I'm still looking at ripped seats, cracked dash and ignored maintenance. People want $1500 for a cradhed up car. Its amazing. But I'm happy with what i have and wanted this car.

Wire brush time Nothing was rusted or stuck. Just dirty

Pads were from 2016 lol

Busted hood lifts and filthy engine bay

New lifts and wiped down and cleaned underhood and bay area

Old pads, dust and rust

Loving how the 225's let the A-Specs poke out

@truonghthe I didn't but will do that. Everything will be checked out. I really think this car is a gem that was just simply neglected but not beaten up.

Just got delivery notice that my rear wheel bearing hubs are in so will be replacing those in the next couple days

Hey GhostTL09, trust me, I looked at an 07 Base TL, with a blown engine, in Harrisburg, Pa., last month. You really can't appreciate, a Georgia car, until you look at a SALT BELT car. Yours, with all original body panels, and respectable paint, is a great starting point. If, your anywhere near Fayettville, or Savana, LKQ PickNPull, sells a complete seat for $31.00. and a dash shell, for $52.00. They post inbound cars, with pics., daily, and will alert you, via email, when a specific car your interested in, enters the yard. What a GREAT project car, I envy you/

At some point an entire soda was spilled on center stack and between seats. The carpet stains were very gummy and sticky. I just used some turtle wax carpet stain remover/freshener. Drivers side.

New windshield going in tomorrow. Years of cheap wiper blades and neglect had it scratched up and lights blurry at night. Look like I'm looking through a dirty fish tank when driving

same type windshield aftermarket. Just looking a good replacement. nothing special
@truonghthe a few months back a I did a post on having to open up gear shift box because I spilled soda. Well guess what has been taken apart piece by piece and in the stages of cleaning to get the soda/gummy residue cleaned. lol

I left it all open overnight to air out

FYI, I had a Pilkington windshield installed in my TL last year; it is optically near perfect and have noticed no issues with it.

you are not the only one, on my TL-S the previous owner spill soda or coffee inside the shifter bad. I have to spend 1 hour just to clean out all the sticky residue.

Why spend $1k on the leather seating material when you could get used "racing seats" for the same price? Albeit, you'll be hard pressed to find them in parchment color.
