XLR8 or Comptech on Long Island

Anyone on Long Island have the XLR8 or Comptech cat-back on Long Island? I'm stuck between ATLP, XLR8 and Comptech. I don't want something loud, so I'm going for a resonated exhaust. Those videos just don't do it jsutice, becasue from my experience, exhausts always sounds totally different in person.

I heard the ATLP in person, now I need to hear a Comptech and the XLR8. I was leaning towards the Comptech because I heard it's the quietest, but then I saw in other posts that the XLR8 is barely any louder than the Comptech.

I have my xmas bonus for work sitting around, so it's definatly cat-back time!

There's 1 person with it on the other side of the country, cuz he was the test fitter...

Gonna have to wait a couple weeks for them to start being available

Price is similar to comptech. Xlr8. Atlp...

The Tanabe exhaust should sound the closest to the Comptech and amongst the quietest of all exhaust..

ONLY the comptech & tanabe have both a resonater, and a mid muffler

Greddy is definitely the loudest.... ATLP/XLR8 non-res should sound very similar (you heard my ATLP) ... and ATLP/XLR8 resonated should also sound very similar.... and finally, comptech/tanabe should be the most similar...

Here is a tanabe on a 3.5L Lexus IS350

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZzg55ymIjg

Here is the comptech exhaust on my 3.2L TL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qsNcQPplEI

sorry, i only have a stand still // rev ... no drive-bys of the comptech

Honestly, like i told you... i loved the sound of comptech the most of all exhaust i ever heard... only reason i went with ATLP because it yields more power.... dont get me wrong, the ATLP is BAD-F*ING-ASS and makes my car sound like a monster, but you heard the cabin drone/noise... it is a bit irratating when you have a headache, or just want some peace and quiet for a minute

Oh... and i think the comptech mufflers were the SEXXIEST of all ... those polished cans used to peak through the muffler opening.. and the dropped a little below the tips, so it just look like a sick, quality exhaust system

i wish comptech would man up and start making some TL-S products (even though the base fits) a quad tip would look nice and probably sound good

Without getting TOO loud like people with Civic's around me, which exhaust gives the most HP gains?

I really want a quad tip for my 06 TL manual. The ATLP exhaust states it will fit with trimming, how much? I don't want to buy an 07 Type-S rear A-Spec lip because I just had the 06 A-Spec body kit put on.

you can buy the atlp exhaust and just buy smaller tips. or cut the bumper like you said.

the reason why different types of catbacks are louder is because they are less restrictive, and that gains more power

most likely your gonna have to buy the type s rear a-spec if you want the quad for you TL... you can always sell the rear 06 a-spec ,

i would say greddy gives you the most gains but it is the loudest exhaust...
prob best off with atlp or xlr8

Thanks for everyone's help. So I've decided that really the comptech or the Tanabe is the way to go for my personal preferences. I also plan on eventually putting on a j-pipe and test pipe, which will make it even louder, so these are my best options.

I'm going to wait for the Tanabe to come out. Whenever it does come out, I'll do a full write up.

I am leaning towards the XLR8 dual 4.5" slashed tips, I just put on my 06 TL body kit and don't feel like changing so soon, crap, I wish I knew 1 month ago.

I honestly STILL want the ATLP res exhaust but need to hear it in person. if not the tanabe or comptech will do me justice...i have heard both tanabe (richie v6) and comptech (jmkiang) in person and both are defintely quiet but have a soft but deep tone to em when u get on it, which is what i want...power with no loudness..lol

^^ +1

I heard Allon's (blackura) ATLP, non res with j-pipe and pre-cat deletes. It sounded MEAN as HELL! Awesome sound...BUT, not exactly what I'm looking for.

Acording to Mr. Heel Toe's website, and the Tanabe should be expected late December or early February. Looks like it's going to be more early February...I hope.

I want a quad tip exhaust for my 06 TL 6 speed but do not want to buy the TL-S rear end. HOW much trimming is needed on an 06 S-Spec rear lip ?

you can just buy smaller tips and have a shop weld them on. I think stock/ATLP/xlr8 is 4", you can probably fit 3". just measure the opening and decide from there. also by measuring you will be able to see how much cutting is required

I even emailed Comptech to ask if there was any possibility of getting a quad tip Comptech for our cars since there is a market for a quieter performance oriented quad tip exhaust. Never heard anything back. I would buy one in an instant if they offered. Maybe if enough people emailed, they might open there eyes and offer something. Tac

Quad tip exhaust on a base bumper requires not so much cutting as I originally thought

In fact if you got the tl-s exhaustopening garnishes you might be able to have a body shop do some custom work for you to get them on...that would be the budget way of doing things

ATLP for the base looks like it should be out very soon...like the next couple of days. Damn that makes this even harder.

No thanks on the greddy. Too loud for me.

I forgot what "quiet" meant ever since i got those pre-cats deleted.. hey, my buddy andrew who you'll be swapping tails with has an ATLP with stock everything else... everytime I get out of my car and hop in his, his car is dead quiet compared to mine lol.

Oh, and as far as quad exhausts go, the whole idea of it is really really stupid but visually it is very pleasing. The fumes technically don't leave 4 tips.. they leave two big ones, one on each side and the tips are strictly for looks only

Perfect, I finally get to hear an ATLP on an all stock system.

The quad is visually appealing, but you're right, if you go back to the muffler, its just one big hole coming out.

my neighbor (nim090) has the full catless system with greddy evo2 on the 3.5L TL-S... i sware, every morning when he fires his car up, it sounds like mine coming from my driveway... his car is definitely a tad louder than mine

either way, when each of us start our cars on cold morning, the other persons window pane's on their house vibrate ....

im not "fully" catless yet... still stock 3rd.... debating what to put in there for like 6 months.. still havent made up my mind

IMO...if you want something respectable...get the Comptech system as its very quiet, understated somewhat...while still having the looks, and doesnt get overly loud unless at WOT...and even then is somewhat muffled. I had it a while back ago before the EVO system and was very happy with it for driving around in business daily. When I retired the car from daily driving to racing mainly...I switched over to the other system then.

I think the Tanabe system will be similar in sound to the comptechs too.

Hell...I go out and start it up at like 3am MANY mornings and run down to the store just to piss off the neighbors and pay them back for waking me up every friggin weekend dressed up like biker wanna-be's in leathers and such riding their Harleys out at 7am. They look like friggin fags! I dont sleep much during the week so I can pay them back EASILY on weekdays when it matters to them most. Guess what they figured out....many more week days for me to pay back than there is weekend days...lol. I hate posers...and thats what they are....posers. Its like Wild Hogs all over again with them...and they just dont get it. The joke/movie was about them! As they go toting out with no helmets on acting all cool....all the while both of them have kids at home. Dumbasses.
