Can't speak specifically for the TL's, but I had a 255lph hi-pressure Walbro in my modified Mustang GT...and yes, it was loud (even over long-tubes, x-pipe, and dumped flowmasters). That being said, it wasn't a bad or annoying sound, even though it was a loud buzz/whine. The stock fuel pumps on some cars are loud as well...depends on insulation in the gas tank/trunk area too.

It's good you asked as this part can lead to a blown engine.
I can only tell you what the Walbro 340 sounded like in my GN. Turning the key on and priming you could hear it from about 10' away. As they start going bad, they get noisier. If you have aftermarket exhaust, you should only be able to hear it when you're near the gas tank. I'm sure my GN has less sound deadening than the TL and my exhaust is probably quieter than most aftermarket TL exhausts. I can only hear it when standing behind or right beside the rear of the car.
Did you install it with the foam noise insulating sleeve around it? This sleeve makes a pretty large reduction in noise. I'm assuming you did not run a pulsator either, right?
Now here's the twist. There is a MAJOR problem with knock off China made imitation Walbro pumps. I've gone through this and taken out a headgasket in my GN because of it. Life span of one of them was about a month and 4 months with another one. The knockoff could not supply my engine up top so it ran rich down low and lean up top. Not good especially for a turbo engine.
Many of the vendors got suckered into this. They truly did not know of the problem and were having to warranty all kinds of pumps.
I know the pump is new and it's going to be warrantied but you may want to google Racetronix. They sell the correct pump and even if you don't get it from them, they will probably share what to look for to identify the knock off pump. I used to know but I've long since forgotten. I currently have a "double pumper" which is 2 Walbros in the tank and both have been in there for 6+ years with no trouble.

To answer the question, the Walbro was at least twice as loud as my stock pump.
