yeah that oem crank's SUPER heavy. I was shocked. Question: How come you decided to go with the smaller crank pulley than the stock size one? I went with the stock size pulley you'll LOVE yours. It'll take some time for it to break in though - just a warning your car shifts harshly for a few, especially when you downshift...baby her.

Got mine done today with the same parts - damn Gates belt came up to $70cdn!!! After 80km's or so, you REALLY feel the difference! I can actually HEAR my AEM intake scream on high rev's. Be prepared to be rev-happy for a few days

Btw, my mechanic used the "heat up" method by heating it until it becomes red and impact gunning it out. Becareful not to burn other surrounding plastic/rubber parts though - should be okay, but just be cautious.

Tell me how the install is if you're D.I.Y.

I might plan on doing this also but wondering how hard the install will be, because i don't think a 3 feet breaker bar will do lol ....

An Acura certified tech is performing the install for me.

If you go into the 3G garage, there is a thread describing a couple methods to do this yourself.

^^ Not really. Retail price of $220 for the pulley, Gates belt for ~$60, and labor of ~$40 isn't really cheap for a mod like this. Or am I alone? It's been fun, yes, but if I had to think twice about my money, this wouldn't be the smartest.

^ Not sure where you pulled those numbers from but I ordered for Josh (Excelerate)...

$226 shipped for the crank pulley and the Gates belt.... then another $50 for install (which is completely avoidable since this is a DIY).

There have been discussions whether or not this mod ADDS whp or not. I've been under the impression that this mod does not affect peak whp/tq numbers, it just alters the curve.

Input?

Underdriving can free up some HP, you also have less rotating mass for the engine to turn so yes it frees up HP. Less rotating mass means quicker revs and faster response. Here is a good example..... on my Z06 I replaced the factory clutch with the LS7 setup from the new Z06, its a heavier assembly and on the dyno the car lost approximately 9hp. Im not worried about it as the car still traps just as good if not better since I have no more slip. This just goes to show that added rotating weight can lead to HP loss.

$40-50 for install?? I guess if it's DIY it would go towards a bottle of Goose or 12 bottles of Newcastles + some icy hot..

I'm not sure how long the breaker bar is your Acura Tech is using but I suggest a 6ft one.. lol..

or a 4-5ft one.. but you may need 2-3 people..

Definitely let us know how it feels.. I'm interested if it affects to low end response.

My car had 48k on it a few months ago when I had my underdrive pulley put on my '05 5AT and the shop said they used nothing more than a impact gun ... And this after the car has been in Ohio its whole life with harsh salted roads.

I've enjoyed my pulley ALOT since resetting the ECU. My car definately didnt "learn" anything until i pulled the battery. I had even driven it 500 miles before deciding to finally reset the darn thing. Do yourself a favor, and reset it from day 1!

Why do you want to reset the ECM after a pulley install? There is nothing new to learn. You took a couple lbs off the crank and that's it. A/F ratios are not affected.

This is nothing more than a placebo effect. You expect to feel a difference after resetting so you do.

And again and again, this debate of whether it "frees up" hp or makes more comes up and it's retarded. The power stroke is unchanged so torque remains the same but hp will increase since it takes less hp to accelerate the lighter pulley. Regardless of the reasoning, it shows up in dynos so for all intents and purposes it's adding hp.

My car has never seen a winter so maybe the removal will be easy. I dunno.

I wasn't planning on resetting my ECU after this mod for the reasons below... I always reset after an engine/exhaust mod though. Since it doesn't require any time, I'll do it anyway... since you said so

Yes, about 15 mins I think. I normally leave it disconnected for my installs so by the time I'm down, its reset for sure. Yes radio presets stick as well as the seat memory. You will need your navi/radio codes though!

This can also be done by removing a fuse on the front passenger side in the wheel well. Search for it.

LOL. Sorry. My job is boring, I have nothing better to do.

Peak should pick up. Since it's a relatively small diameter I don't know what kind of gains you will get. I know by going with a smaller torque convertor 12" to a 9" and a serious reduction in weight I picked up nearly 10hp so the weight savings for sure will show up in a dyno.

Not only that but there may be a hp or two from underdriving the accessories.

Well, I won't have before and after dyno graphs but oh well.

The underdrive pulley is supposed to yield an extra 1-2 whp due to the reasons above.

Regardless, I'm excited for this install.

No experience on a TL but I have common sense. I have done this on other cars on a much higher level and I know what gains I got from more/better weight reduction.

LOL. I didn't mean it that way. Too many Vicotin.

I just meant that I applied what I learned with other cars in that department. Larger diameter to smaller diameter seemed to make a pretty big difference and as diameter got smaller it took a lot more weight reduction to get the same gains in hp. Sorry if I came across arrogant.
