UR Pulley
#41
I ordered the OEM size from XLR8 yesterday and also wonder where to have it installed around Chicago. There is 1 shop 2 miles from me that does alot of rice/tuner cars, I will go there today and find out if he has done this install.

If I decide to start modding, I will probably use these guys.

They did a pulley install and custom tuned my Unichip on my '02 TL-S. Let me know how you like it once installed. I told myself once I traded my '02 TL-S for the '08 TL-S that I wasn't going to mod it. But I might do the UR pulley and a J-Pipe.

the bolt is the hardest part you need (2) long exstensions, breaker bar ,crank tool and a a long pipe to put over the breaker bar.its really easy..

Thats kinda what I was thinking, my local shop quoted me $60 then when they put it in they only charged me $45 because it was so easy.
Of course you do need the Torque wrench which is why I didnt mess with it.
At any rate, it is a great mod, and well worth the money in my opinion!

I was also wondering if it would make a difference to upgrade ALL the pulleys? I was looking through the UR catalog and see a bunch of offerings for a 'pulley set' . Just wondering if it would make a difference (if they even made sets for our cars).

I saw that also. Sure would look nice. $$$

those other pulleys will only improve the look, but not the feel of the car.

The downsides is what I am wondering as well. When i had a pulley setup on my old accord I had so many issues. At idle my lights would dim and I had to rev it up to keep the lights bright. I eventually went through an alternator. Than a batcap. Than my Honda battery. Thought it was just time for those things to go, but come to find out the pulleys were slowly draining the life out of all these things at idle. Took off the pulleys and all was good again. What a terrible experience.
Even though this pulley that everyone is getting here is the stock size, just lighter, I wonder if those problems would still exist? Or maybe it was that my pulleys were smaller...can't remember since it was so long ago.

I believe every car stereo setup should be using a capactior or a batcap in the trunk to help reduce the stress on the cars battery. And in my opinion I would never do underdrives unless my car was a straight race app. I did the stock sized unorthodox pulley and I am very happy with the performance results. Hope this helps ya out!

The complete set helps more but not a lot. The main weight loss is in the crank pulley. The whole prinicple behind these pulleys is... they are connected to the driveshaft hense the crank pulley. They take power from the engine that would normally go to the wheels and uses that power to turn your accessory drives like the alternator and power steering. The lighter these components are the easier they turn, which in turn will save some power and let the extra power go to the wheels instead. People always claim of imbalancing. Well all Honda/Acura are internally balanced. Search this forum, there are tons of people who have had these pulleys for 50K or more with no problems. I have had them on every car Ive owned and never had a problem. I think they are one of the best upgrades you can do, and you will see a slight increase in gas mileage too.

well, i used to built engine for drag and road course so i know. what make you think honda would make such heavy pulley for, to balance out all the internal components. if i have to write all the details, it would take many pages.

This is convincing me to do this mod. Between what Fanatic and Tripn' said, I'm feeling much better about doing this.

Why don't you offer a group buy for UR Pulley?
I'm sure you'll get easily tons of TLers to add onto the group buy list...

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this mod. After reading this thread, it seems pretty safe. I've driven Buda's TL with the UR Pulley in it, and it feels significantly better. I just got illuminated door sills installed this week, but I'll be calling Excelerate soon.
By the way JD TL-S, love the new Avatar !!!
