UR Crank Pulley CONCERN

People I've met within the last week - coworkers - have me concerned. Some pointed out that since the Crank Pulley's made out of aluminum, it has a habit of bending and deforming; in particularly those made by Unorthodox Racing. Should I be worried? It's a huge part of the engine, and if something goes undone - I'm out a couple grand! I love it thus far, but I haven't pushed it SUPER hard - apparently "racing" or long periods of stress can deform the crank pulley?!??!?!?! Azine to the rescue please!

Thanks

I push my car on a regular basis and I've had my pulley on for about a year.

No problems so far.

My only concern is a ticking noise from the serpentine belt and that's about it.

ticking noise? how many miles? maybe you need a valve adjustment? thanks for the heads up on the pulley - makes me feel better. but it DOES make sense that since it's made out of aluminum, it has the flexibility to expand under stress - i have NO IDEA why i didn't think of this before - but to tell u the truth, i love my crank pulley! let's all stays well...haha

Sounds like more urban myth to me. Had mine on for a few years at a minimum and no probs. And I race my car formally. Currently #1 in Street Mod in SCCA Autocross in Indy Region. There is more myth and misinformation about pullies out there than you would believe...dont get caught up into it. I am supercharged and running one...no issues. Which is more stress than the avg - again...no issues EVER.

^I was going to suggest he consult you, but figured you'd find this on your own.

By the way, how've you been?

What up Eric

How long have you had it in your car for? Last I heard, you were still deciding on it.

I call I've had mine for almost a year, and yes i get the weird noise from the belt when I turn the ac on, of course its cuz I have a cheap belt, I sprayed some belt dressing on it and the noise went away

ps. underdrive ftw

belt dressing? why not fix the problem instead?- a bad/cheap belt orpossibly weak ac belt tensioner-
a common TL failure

Also- cheap $20 pullies I would never trust on my engine- you just dont know~
BUT we are talking only about UR in this thread.
Thousands and thousands of these are in use on the roads today.
Their machinery is the highest quality and the highest QC standards.

Our vendor Excelerate sells them and would not risk his reputation by selling an inferior part
If there had been even 1 reported failure---certainly we on azine would have heard about it!
If you want great parts you have to pay for them

There are good bargains to be found- but if you are concerned-= spend the extra 100 and buy high quality and drive without concern
I have more worry over road potholes damaging a $200 rim, than a UR pulley detroying a $4000 engine

^ Well said. Its a lot to pay for a pulley but safety/reliability come at a price!

80,000.

Yeah, maybe some valve adjustment.

I'm taking my car into the stealership to get my timing belt done, we'll see.

ticking noise at 80 may be the ac belt tensioner
My 01 sounded like it needed a valve adjust, but a stethacope reveled where the noise was really coming from-

spend 5 bucks at parts store for a mechanics stethascope
Place the tip on the mount for the ac belt tensioner- does it sound like gravel?
there is your problem
1.5 hours `book time`-labor to replace- not much room for a human hand... with skin...

I paid a local shop to replace mine at 80k miles on the 01TL
part was 85$ at import parts store for complete assembly

You can check ps pump- alt.- each valve- injectors- with the stethascope, and hear the health of each part.

I have a white lab coat-- for when I go out checking the engine --freaks the neighbors out= the ultimate car Doc! You use a stethascope for your car?!? wow man

You should be fine. I run an aluminum pulley on my other car and it's so light I could not comprehend how it could hold up yet a few years later it's fine.

If MichaelBenz runs one with a blower and regularly races it, that's about all you need to know. Every accessory might take 10hp to run while the blower probably takes a good 50hp. Very large stress difference yet it's holding up with harder usage than most of us will ever see.
