UPDATE: Resonators!
Here is the original thread; http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85504
I went back today, after doing some research on these boards, and had the resonator in front of the cat put back on. This resonator does NOT reduce sound, its sole purpose to eliminate (or reduce) vibration. The problem I was having was a very tinny/raspy sound around 2.5k RPMs, which would be the result of some kind of vibration.
The owner was very nice to me. I went back, said that I looked into it and found that the small, skinny resonator, in front of the cat, was used to reduce vibration, not sound. He told me that he did a job for me yesterday, did what I asked, saw that I was unhappy, and now that I did my homework he would put it on for free! He just asked me to tip the mechanic because he won't make any money if he did it for free (gave him 8 bucks).
Well, the results are awesome! I still have that nice, not very loud, deeper sound throughout the entire rev range, and the raspy sound is gone at 2.5k! It sounds absolutely perfect right now.
I took a big chance doing this, being that it was 2G information I was basing this test on, but I figured our cat-backs had to be somewhat similar if they had the same types of resonators and same configuration. I highly recommend to anyone who whats a deeper purr, but not a raspy fart sound, do this mod. It is cheap, easy, and awesome. But remember, only take off the large resonator closer to the mufflers. DO NOT remove the "tube" looking one near the cat!

I really can't tell if I gained power. Of course, in my mind, I feel like the car is more powerful, but its probably just the typical placebo mod effect that everyone gets. Numbers would be minimal anyway. I just took a resonator off.

Right, yea the sound makes it sound faster right! Ha. I just did not know if in any certain power band you could feel it push a little more.. for instance when I dropped a K & N filter in it feel like it pull a little more in the upper RPM range.

The auto sounds nice too, especially if you use sport shift to control the shifts. It makes each shift very noticable. I like it

How does that filter improve whatever it is meant to improve? More tightly woven or something?

I thought K&N quit selling the 2004 Acura TL Air Filter replacement #33-2078 because it did not fit properly. I also looked on their site and this part number is no longer listed as a replacement for the TL.
Where did you get it and did you have any problems with the installation?
thanks

The K&N filter cost me about $45 I think because I got it from Checker and had to get it ordered in. It fits about 95%. THe only situation is that the very corners don't fit the top cover of the box perfectly. Talked to my mechanic of 25 years and he said as long as the sides don't bow, which would let unfiltered air in, you are ok. He made sure they didn't, so everything is fine. Just clipped corners just barley and fits perfectly. Part number is 33-2078. It does it's job which is what matters. The desgin flaw does not effect performance. It basically gets more aiflow through due to the fact that it is made of some cotton and (?) that promotes better airflow but still provides adequate filtering.
From this, I have noticed a throatier sound above 4700 and seems to pull the rpm's slightly faster (although this is subjective). It sounds very sexy though, don't know how to describe it. I have also noticed I have been getting around 50 more miles to the tank, although this could just be the engine opening up at >6000 miles. Worth the money for sure.

If you reduce vibration, between those limits, you are reducing sound

You probably won't be able to tell much of a difference on video.
Gale, I just had my mid-muffler removed as well, and it's sound very nice, but not AS loud as I'd like. Did the intake increase any volume from the exhausts end, or just the engine? I wonder if there is any other way to increase the exhaust volume, with the current TONE, by a tiny margin. That would make it PERFECT.
