Sonnick already nailed the reaction time misconception, so I'll leave that alone, but the only thing VSA will help with is to make your car a half second slower, not quicker!

Damn, I figured it would help :/ I'd use it if I couldn't keep the wheel spin to a minimum.

Keep trying man, I ran like a 14.7x@98.x mph with just CAI. I rolled my car thru the huge ass waiting line so it wouldn't get hot and then launched the hell out of it!

I think someone mentioned it earlier but the SRI may hurt your trap speed...again just assuming because I've never had one but only heard bad things about it.

ya i love the sound of my SRI and its 3in piping but i only did it because i had the stuff laying around. I want to do a CAI but with the AEM bypass, so i do not have to worry about hydro-lock but AEM CAI is crazy expensive!!!

^ if you been in the game of tuning long enough, all of my cars over the last 10+ yrs never had this hydrolock issue. You only worry if you live in a flood-zone with waters up half your doors and the engine is running. Most people I find having this hydrolock issue is also from slammed cars going through puddles of water and stalling the engine, other than that, the car still performs right after a day of drying.

I went out to local drag strip in gainesville for the first time ever with some friends just for giggles. It was in the 80's, and pretty humid. I didnt let the car cool off so I had a lot of heat soak. Only time I turned it off was when I was helping my buddy put his slicks on. Ran it with full interior with a little less then half a tank of gas.

I wasn't really happy with my time, even though I have some light performance mods. Anyway, on to the times;

R/T .582
60' 2.759
330 7.350
1/8 10.922
MPH 70.02
1000 13.953

ET 16.488
MPH 89.71

I went to Cedar Falls Iowa and raced Friday and Saturday night. Had a bad head wind Friday night and the track was fairly slick so my best Friday was a 15.3xx. My best on Saturday was,

R/T .569
60' 2.453
330 6.627
1/8 10.008
mph 73.36
1000 12.816
1/4 15.200
mph 95.58

I was not launching very hard at all just sipping the a little, This was my best and it was with traction control ON. When I launched with it Off I got horrible horrible wheel hop so i stopped running the car like that after trying twice. I did get my best 60ft doing it that way but just didnt feel like breaking any mounts since I needed to drive the car home to Minnesota in one piece. Edit to add, Im running michelin super sport tires on all 4 corners.

My mods are in my sig, I did bot have the crank pully on at the track though. didnt have time to install yet.

There's a whole thread on times. MT can get below 14.5 easy with good conditions.

Right. But now you can peruse the 1st thread and see what mods people are running and what times they are getting with those mods. This gives some basis of comparison so that when you add mod x, you know where in the time range you might get to (conditions being favorable).

PLUS with the Tips thread, you can (attempt to) optimize how you run (driving/launch/setup) the 1/4 mile to get a better result.

Anyone NOT getting 14.5 or better in a good running 6MT has a driving/launch/setup problem, not a mods problem (assuming reasonable conditions).

I'm MT. Next time I go back ill probably by the engine torque dampner before hand. I know the car is way faster than a 15.2. I had the trap speed for a mid 14. I just wasn't willing to wheel up through first to get there. Hopefully Ill have the rest of the RV6 exhaust to go with the j pipe to before I go back again.

06 5AT - RV6 V3 PCD & jpipe
64 degrees - Bradenton Raceway - 2/9/12

Best time:

r/t .489
60' 2.440
330 6.429
1/8 9.683
mph 74.52
1000 12.493
1/4 14.851
mph 94.80

I have never launched the car. Just held one foot on brake and one on the gas. Last yellow light I let off the brake and floor it at the same time. I try to get consistent launches so I can test performance gain of my mods. Traction control was off.

I'm going to get a CAI next and put it to the test.

Your trap speed will give you the true picture of your performance gains, but to be consistent you'll need to use an online DA correction calculator which will compensate for weather variables.

June 2nd is a Saturday so it will most likely be very busy and we will only get 2-3 runs. If we go on a Thurs we can get a dozen or more runs if we get there right at 6.

Will the CAI be the only mod since your last runs? If so, that would be great so we can see what a CAI can do on its own.

Either day works for me. That's great, I love testing one performance mod at a time. How many runs did you get in last time?

those times seem low. when i had my 03 sentra ser (5MT), my best quarter mile was 14.9 at sac raceway. my only mods were aem cai & h&r lowering springs. i don't remember the temp, but it was summer and it was pretty hot. ive never ran this car in the quarter mile, but my butt dyno feels like the tl is much faster and my tl is an auto.

I'd change the short ram to a CAI first, then when you go to the track run with everything out of the trunk (spare, jack etc) and 1/8th tank of gas. That should help. Try to come out of the hole with minimal wheelspin.
