Turbo 6MT - J32A to J37 Cam & Crank sensor upgrade parts list

Howdy Acurazine. I am in the process of building my wife's 04 6MT and I am using an AEM Infinity series 7 to control the engine, and I would like to get the EMS up and running N/A to eliminate any tech issues before the turbo goes on. The stock J32A3 has a 12 tooth crank trigger wheel and I need to upgrade to the J37 type 24 tooth wheel setup. I am trying to compile a list of the needed parts, I just don't have access to a J37, but does anyone have an FSM or diagram of the J37 engine sensor layout, or any side by side pics of the timing side to compare?

not that it matters but here is the basic setup-
Stock J32A3 Longblock
Custom turbo kit with 6062 Billet T4
A/W IC
3.5" hood exit cutout/3" back to stock mufflers
44mm gate
Custom Big Boy Intake maifold w/ LS6 DBW TB
surge tank w/ Walbro 450
FIC 1100cc Injectors
S2K Coils
AEM Infinity & Racecapture2

Curious as to why not just buy an '08 TL-S ECU and a Hondata. Seems like it'd be much easier than dicking around with a full standalone system.

Also, are you building this motor? Or what's the point of the J37 crank?

A Turbo TL? I’m in!

The 07+ ECU w/ Hondata just cant touch the infinity as far as tuning goes. VE Tuning, multiple boost control strategys, 2/3 step/antilag, DBW control, multiple safegaurds, flex fuel compensation, dual knock sensing, traction control, limitless sensor usage w inputs/outputs that are needed to control various other components in the system. I swear by Hondata for most builds due to reliability and ease but I need the options on this one.

The current motor is not built, should make 450-500 pretty easy, but it is temporary to get the fitment correct on the cast manifold heads. Once testing is done and any issues ironed out, I will switch to the multi port heads and a mild block build. Im honestly not even worried about the motor, it's keeping the trans alive that is the key.

There is no J37 crank involved, just the crank sensor/wheel and cam sensor are upgraded. The J37 uses higher resolution hall sensors that allow much tighter ignition control vs the older mag/vr type.

A TL with a hood exit; I've long wondered what that would look like

You may have better luck in the 4G group. Or if you have FB, there's a page called J series engine nation. I'm sure you could find your answer there.

Lmao

Turbo guy. How far along are you in this plan?

I will have to check out that facebook page, just hard to find a knowledgeable J specific site since that old one shut down. So far on the build I have most of the hard parts to get the majority fabrication done, and I have the ECU and short harness. Stuff fabricated so far - A/W IC is mounted, turbo is mounted, A/W tank, surge tank, intake manifold, airbox, battery relocation and strut bar which will also have the up pipe mount. I am out of argon so some finish welding is still to be done. Next on the list is picking up a spare motor to build the manifold on and freshen up to drop in with the turbo, as I am building while keeping the car drivable, so some things have to wait. Shooting for boost in mid spring. The goal of this current build is a daily driveable 450-500whp that is as reliable as a stock TL, and none of the drawbacks of the other Turbo/SC/N/A options for the J. Once that goal is met, someone should have a dog cut gearset by then and then :turd: gets real. I'm not quite ready to share pics of the setup but I can show what it was N/A and some of my other builds.

I’m looking forward to this!

The other builds look sexy

500whp reliably?

There are a few designs in the build that tackle the weak points of the J. Obviously 500 is only seen when traction is present and on corn, wouldn't push it that hard on 91.

I scored and found nice stash of stainless in the shop, so I can start back on fab when gas gets here.

Looks like a fun project!

I got gas filled and should be ticking away at the charge piping and up pipe over the next few weeks as time allows. Random update I guess lol.
