Is there anyone with a '04-'06 TL 5spd AT getting the most of their cars through mods

Now I have seen endless 3rd gen TLs with performance modifications but most of these TLs with modifications are 6 speed manuals. Is there anybody here with a 3rd gen automatic TL(04-06models) here who have gotten or have performance mods for their cars? I'm not talking about supercharger or turbos, since those mods are pretty much a no go due to the how bad the auto 04-06 TL transmissions are. I'm talking about performance mods like j pipes etc. All 04-06 automatic transmission owners only let me know what performance mods you have!

90% of TL's are auto, so every possible performance mod has been run by the auto guys. Just look around the 3G performance section, there is tons of auto guys fully modded.

Well I did know that most TLs were autos, but I didn't think that it was that large of a percentage of TLs that were auto, but hey you learn something new everyday. It's just that whenever I see people posting photos on social media or wherever of their TLs showing off their performance modifications it always seems to be coming to mostly come from 6 speed folks. I also know that the autos when they are stock aren't all that fast according to alot of people and also that the 04-06 autos have bad trannys why people shy away and feeling makes no sense to get performance parts. I figure performance parts like pulleys and j pipes would give an auto tl a little more oomph, especially when driving in Tiptronic sport mode.

Probably because a majority of the 04-06 people are inherently more conservative with their performance mods given the glass nature of their transmissions

Well I drive auto and still want performance parts put on my car with exception of turns and supercharger since the trannys are built to withstand that kind of power. I'd like to make the most put of the car I have now and make it more fun to drive.

That's my mission but right now I have to take it one step at a time and save up for some more mods. I already have the rear sway bar. I wn going to ask, about how much wheel horsepower would you say make an auto TL about as fast as a six speed or faster than a six speed?

one of the best modifications an automatic TL can make is to lighten it's weight.
you'll accelerate better, corner better and stop better.
best of all, it's free

That's actually what I want to do although I won't be able to take out the rear seats being that this car is still my only daily driver so I will just remove the spare donut and the carpeting from the trunk. With that said I was also planning on getting a type s aspec lip for the front and rear which I am guessing would add more weight to the car and kill the speed. Am I correct?

lol!
do you want your car to look cool or go fast!?
it's VERY hard to do both on this car.
so, a compromise is needed. adding the aspec kit probably wont ADD ton of weight. but that's the price of looking cool.

or charge up your credit cards and do both!
aspec kit, jpipe, exhaust, supercharger, the whole nine yards
Fuck it! we only live once, right????????

Not so sure why TL owner consider the MT is ultra rare? Yes they don't have abundance available like the AT counter part, I visit Acura dealer for all the oil change and every time I saw at least two Type S MT and as far as 04-06 model once time I saw 5 on the service lot. Now if we talk about specific color and interior, clean Type S MT then its another story.

I may habe to reconsider whether I want the front aspect lip then, I'll pprobably just get the rear and I would definitely slap a supercharger on that if they weren't so darn expensive and the transmissions weren't such eggs.

Lol I could do that, although I heard that superchargers are more suitable for the TL. It would be great if I could just find one for a reasonable price and when I say reasonable price I mean something not too high above $1500

$1500 for a turbo kit is pretty cheap. Most eBay kits will end up costing you more then that when it's said and done.

You can find a turbo thread from another member here: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...ap-lol-931507/, That might give you some inspiration!

If you decide to go naturally aspirated however, I'd definitely say Jpipe and PCD/HFPC. Don't forget to check us out for all your performance needs: Excelerate's Honda & Acura Store - Japanese Performance Specialist - Homepage

Good luck & happy modding!

the CT supercharger is really inefficient. NOT the best.
for an automatic, you're only looking at 40hp gain...
if you buy brand new...$5000 for 40hp isnt worth it

but i mean, we can talk shop all day...which we have been. for like the past 6 months....
when are you going to jump on some modifications?????

Stop talkin bout it, BE ABOUT IT!

Thanks for the bit of info and the links. I'll definrtely check them out. My only concerns about the turbo is if my transmission will be able to handle it and the effect it may have on the longevity of my engine.

Now I don't know if I mentioned this in one of my past threads, but I wanted to know if anybody had any suggestions on modifications that could improve torque output and great modifications to improve cornering aside from sway bars and great tires?

like, there's nothing really much you can do.

- Supercharger
-Turbocharger
- Nitrous

exhaust mods
- pcd/hfc
- jpipe
- cat back

intake mods
- 4 inch intake
- larger throttle body
- throttle body coolant delete
- larger ported and polished intake manifold
- intake manifold spacer
- cams
- heads

Suspension
- tires
- lowering springs or coils
- sway bars
-engine mounts + Tranny mounts
- chassis bracing

Software
-Hondata
- ktuner

FREE mods
- lose weight
- cooling mods

ive put about $8k into my TL and it's only pushing 240hp. and it's a six speed manual. i'm not yet ready to dump more $$ into it, as I want it to last me another 5-7 years. by then, it will be a project car and i'd most likely turbo the motherfucker.

when you're turboing, all you do is throw more money at it!!!

have spare blocks.
when one engine fails, throw in another

it sounds like extreme modding ISNT for you.
you can try the basics like exhaust mods!

Yeah that's what I was thinking. While a turbo or supercharger would be nice it will likely cause too much strain to the engine and require constant work which I have nowhere near the amount of money to do at this point in my life and plus due to the glass nature of these transmission this would be too much force for it to withstand. For right now I will stick to naturally aspirated performance mods, I'm actually looking at tru bendz exhausts since they are relatively cheap to buy and install compared to their competitors although the sound of them are a little loud, if there is any good resonator to tone the sound a bit on the exhaust with a let me know and I remember you suggested cooling the car for improved performance and I just wanted to know a few great ways that I can cool my exhaust in order to oomph up the performance if you're interested in sharing?

you could try wrapping the trubendz exhaust with titanium exhaust wrapping.
there's not much you can do for cooling the exhaust....

the engine is what needs to be cooled.

you can do the coolant throttle body mod; which wont do much...but every bit helps.
and then you can either cut the hood to add vents. or you can cut up the wind shield cowl to vent.
remove all the plastic covers.

Another great mod that I am looking into are pulleys but I am not sure what harm that does to your engine, brembo brakes are another great feature to have when needing to brake fast.

I've checked out some your videos and I must say that your setup does indeed sound pretty outstanding! What I wanted to ask you is would you consider your car as being "fun to drive" and is this car your daily driver?

Yes! This is my only car so I go to school in it, I run errands for my family in it, & I use it for everywhere that I need to go. I must say it's really fun to drive & I just got done racing my boy's modded G35 & I beat him from a 0 roll, 60 roll, and a 40 roll so that's really exciting. Plus, the noise at WOT & the loudness makes it 10x better! I can be heard coming down whole streets. I put a lot of money into this car & in my opinion it's worth it, if you have it.

Sounds all good bro! That's where I'm trying to get my TL. So did you throw a supercharger or turbo in there yet?

No, & I don't plan on it b/c that takes a lot of time & money imo. But I would if it weren't my DD & I was trying to get the most out of it & take it to the track & activities like that.

I see, I'm assuming you're pushing close to 300 whp. Correct?

A base 3G automatic will be lucky to see 235-240 whp with full bolt ons. They only make around 210 stock. It's just the harsh reality of the 04-06' automatics and not having a tuning solution. Not that a tune would add much more than another 10 whp.

I also wanted to ask about that Tiptronic sport mode that you have in your TL. Do you use that very often? If so how much better does it feel now in comparison to before you got your mods?
