Chad,
Roof spoiler:
Rear Diffuser:
LOL see the difference in construction (whether material or shape and size and fin length and curve)
Danny, will let you know bud
Feji, buzzinga? sorry didnt catch that buddy....

Err? A roof spoiler and a rear diffuser are the same exact thing; one being on top of a vehicle and the other underneath.
The roof spoiler is actually called a Vortex Generator. It is an aviation marvel brought to automobiles with the need for downforce.
The vanes create turbulence behind them allowing air to quickly move pass.
The vortex generator on your roof will help create downforce on the top back end of your vehicle. A rear diffuser allows air to pass under the car quicker creating less pressure under the car.
In the end, they are the same exact design though. Rear diffusers are often larger because its easier to hide them under a car verse having huge shark fins on your roof.

^^^ I am not disagreeing on the concepts and fundamentals of a vortex generator....
the roof spoiler (with vortex generator) has smaller fins....the diffuser has bigger fins (generally speaking)
also am not sure if the roof spoiler with vortex generators generates any down force....the fins GENERATE vortex AWAY from the body of the car hence making it more aerodynamic (by taking the turbulence away from the body of the car) and increasing 'the cars' aerodynamic capability OR reducing its drag coefficient (DC)....
in general terms anything that reduces the DC, makes the car more "slick" or "slippery" through the air and hence less downforce.....anything that increases the downforce, like a rear spoiler, will generally increase the DC....hence making it less aerodynamic
thats why all the new exotic you will see an aero spoiler which only comes into play at different speeds....so when the car is braking is pops up, hence increasing downforce and DC which helps in stopping the car....for high speed tests, the spoilers pop back in hence making the car more "slippery" through the air.......

I guess we could argue for days about what a vortex generator is supposed to do. In the end I'll turn towards the people that made it... aviation engineers.
I dont want to give a drawn out explanation that is just copied and pasted from wiki. But a vortex keeps the air tight against the wing of the plane... or in this case, your trunk and rear window. This creates extra pressure pressing down on your rear end which is downforce which is increasing your DC.

Rex...tell me about it....the Aviation center is about 2.5-3 miles from home....maybe in a few years I might learn how to fly
Thanks bud
hell yeah....dont forget the scotch....we wont get accurate results without it....
buddy....not an argument....a great discussion....am here to learn and even if I get proved wrong, well I will get to learn something....
you can only compare the aerodynamics on a plane and a car sooo much....the vortex generators reduce drag and some also claim of increasing gas mileage....
the generators reduce drag and at times, reduce lift...as I said they do not ADD downforce but they reduce LIFT....i think they are 2 different concepts....
check out this link, I decided to pull the trigger on this roof spoiler after reading this:
http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article...-Part-4&A=3061
On the bottom it has links to part 1/2 and 3....read the full article
Thanks bud

^^^ No Sir....
aerodynamic mods will always help....
so for instance, the Drag Coefficient goes lower with the ASPEC kit installed on our cars...you wont notice anything with respect to gains (whether MPG or acceleration)....certain body kits (like on the S2000/BRZ/etc) will drop the drag coefficient enough for you to notice these gains....
same goes with the vortex generator roof spoiler or a rear diffuser....they decrease drag and hence help make the car "slippery" through the air....
so if you drop a lot of weight....you get the benefits like agility, quicker acceleration and better braking but the drawbacks is you will feel unstable at high speeds....since there is not enough downforce....the rear wing help here...
couple months back when I had the trunk loaded with tool chest from Sears, the weight gave me SUCH a great feeling...the car felt soooo much planted....hence the wing comes into play....you get the downforce without the weight....
when coming to performance, you are practically never like "ohh this will gain me 0.5hp, so let me not do it"....its all extracting the most you can from the car and the engine....
I can go on and on about the front splitter and some ideas I have but I shall limit myself here LOL

LOL i might have missed that....
but yeah hondata is a great great tool and you know they are coming out with a hondata for 04-06 as well do check into it....a little $$$ but great gains....
and at times I do have thoughts like "might be TL is not the right platform to make it into a track car"...."maybe I should put it back to stock"...but then I feel, I just want to enjoy the car and when am ready to buy my track car (s2000/lotus elise), I will definitely turn her back into stock and go that route....the temptation is pretty high to do it now, but I am holding myself back....
