aah, I read up and looks like pocket porting is called head bowl shaving...they went old school on this one

am just debating if I should install as is and later get a J32A2 head and have a complete work done on those or just get the work done on this and call it a day....damn decisions LOL
When you shave the heads, you're effectively decreasing the size of the combustion chamber, yet keeping the bore and stroke the same. That results in higher compression.

^^^ you are increasing the size of the chamber by shaving the head (since shaving takes material off), unless you meant a decking which decreases the size and hence increases CR

unless, I have the shaving concept messed up

^^^ MAS it sure is a lot to learn !!! just when I think, I know 20% of whats going on, I fall face first LOL...

With the heads and going to be a little more careful and do a little more research since they really make a difference in driving and if not done right, it can harm your engine....

can harm your engine? Sht, that IS YOUR ENGINE.
You're swimming in the deep end of the pool...I think that's too much cranial effort for me. At some point I have a little cut off in my brain that just says, be happy and shut up and drive.

buddy different spices for different people....you like to switch out your tails every weekend, I would like to extra every bit of power from this J engine....

I would never do what you do, and you might never do what I wanna do

Its what make you happy in the end....I am taking baby steps with this and talking with Andy and Matt and Kurt and Brandon to get a little more understanding and this is my daily and I want reliable power...as I said, I love when a highly powered car pulls up next to me and either cant pull away or is left behind

as I repeated (what you said) whatever makes you happy in the end

after a lot of debating, I think am gonna just deck the head for higher CR and a mild port and polish job....i think am gonna just run the type S cams for now....

You're funny, I do the same thing...I debate with people while really just voicing it out loud for myself. The way you write it sounds like you're debating me when in reality you're just agreeing.

DEFINITELY different strokes, I'm just too much of a puss to get into all that stuff. Plus, being a daily driver, I just want it reliable and can't afford the down time to figure out the inevitable bugs that come with breaking new ground.

ohh dude NO...not at all debating...totally agreeing with you....

this is my daily as well and a high mileage daily at that.... (think I will hit the 170K mile milestone this weekend)....Cant afford the downtime as well and hence I got this set of heads....will do some work on it and put it on....I definitely could not, take the current heads out and work on them and put it back....it will really put my car out of commission...

The only reason I have some confidence is because of some members....they way Brandon and Andy and Kurt have been helpful, I bet this will be just fine

Ill have to casually snag your harness bar then .

Any pics of the modifications you made to the harness bar? Since they don't make our size anymore.

Gotcha, Anil...let's just say that I'm lucky I don't live near ANY of those guys that would instill confidence.

But, my ADD and billions of tails DO still enjoy watching from the sidelines.

ask and you shall receive

had to make this bracket for both sides, adds around 1.5 - 2 inches to both sides....fits perfectly now....

Not sure how I feel about the harness bar modification. Looks like it could easily collapse.

Morgan, I totally understand what you mean...hence I sat and even used all my stripping experience to lie on the bar to check how it holds up....seemed fine to me

btw you can see it slightly in the picture but it does have a bar running down (1 on each side) to keep it from "falling down"

I was unsure of the angle at which the racing harness exits the seat and ties to the harness bar and I have been meaning to research more since those 2 bars are height adjustable....

I know how harness bars works and are constructed.

Im talking about a side impact. You now have two pivot points on each end of the bar, which can easily bend/deform/tear in a crash. This is the bar that is holding your harness in the correct angle. If it bends, its taking the harness in whatever direction its going. Or worse, it moves forward, and you go too since the upper belts are no longer tight against your body.

Im sure KC has a chassis shop that you could have brought the car to and had them build a proper harness bar, and probably for not a whole lot more then what you spent.

Im not trying to be a jerk, I just don't skimp when it comes to tires, brakes, or safety equipment.

^^^

yeah...makes a ton of sense....Lets see if I can find a shop which can just weld a 4" piece of pipe in the middle without charging me the trade equivalent of butt secks !!!

I dont want to weld to be in the middle as it will add "point of failure" to the harness bar....Let me talk to couple folks (they primarily work on muscle cars....I have yet to come across a decent and trust worthy import shop here....

The muscle car guys have been around for quite a while. When it comes to chassis/roll cage work, I'd trust them over a tuner shop.

Also, check out any rock crawler shops. Those guys typically build full tube frame chassis', they know how to build something strong.

Morgan, why would you have to take safety into account in car only running on 3 cylinders!?!

CAUTION: EDITED POST

Man trust me, I have been jealous of your and the new emerging NBP TL's/TL-S's....I have a to do a lot just to keep up....

the lightweight rims do have a great performance increase/feel....tooo bad they cost soo much...I spent all my 2013 budget in heads and tune...so I guess the rims have to wait until next year....lightweight (rims + tires + rotors) ...guessing an estimated loss of (12*4) + (6*2) = 60lbs in rotational mass (~240-250 lbs in dynamic weight) in 2014 and more

but this year, its the heads build and tune....I hope I will be able to get everything done by July-ish

I would just be happy with the perceived rotational mass loss...I remember even on my Accord...I'd put the stock steel wheels back on and the car would feel like it was fast as fk again...
